Music discovery in Legion
« on: December 30, 2007, 07:26:14 PM »
Ok, this is kinda wierd.  First, unless my copy is deffective for some reason, Legion's PSG only plays on one speaker right?  Well, going into the sound test, there is multiple versions of songs.  So, I decided, what the hell, why don't I put one version of a song on one speaker, & combine another version with it, onto the other speaker.  They match up, to the point where, they sound like they were supposed to be stereo in the first place, including drums in some songs, going back n' forth from left to right.  I'm very puzzled by this.  Why did Reno proram this game like this, what crack where they smoking at the time?

Might I add, the music in stereo, while better, still is of poor quality for the most part  ](*,)  Maybe it's just coincidence, but, the alternate versions fit together too well, like Reno litterally took the music, & split it in half into seperate songs.

I found  a issue with this game also. On my region modded blue Coregrafx/Super Cd-Rom combo after I die and don't continue and it does that narration, the game crashes and tries to rev up the cd drive spinner motor in reverse :(
Games in near mint,so no absurd scratch is causing this issue.

Since certain US and Jap Hu-Cards hate this combo since its region modded it is possible that maybe this game does also. I wont be able to test further until the Supergrafx arrives and I use it in place of the Core Grafx. Either way after the Supergrafx arrives I plan to just use the Coregrafx to play Hu-cards,and use the Supergrafx with the cd-drive for cd games and for the Supergrafx titles.

I also had issues trying to play two players in this game before, like it wouldn't let you select the two player option or something.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Split audio tracks reminds me of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water for the FM-Towns. I noticed every single audio track included 2 different voice recordings for various cutscenes in the game. If you put the game into a CD player and play in stereo, you can hear 2 separate conversations in the left & right speaker at the same time. The game specifically chooses to mute either left or right speaker during the cutscenes, and sure made me think my speakers was on the fritz.

So the Nadia game...does it use the split audio tracks for interactivity's sake (like you get one conversation if you do something in the game, and if you do something else you get the other conversation), or is it just a really cheap and cheesy way to maximize disc space?

Obviously to save disc space because the whole game is on 3 freakin CDs.

I've had Legion crash as well after I die, it ends up going back to the system card screen...or are you talking about it freezing up?  Another thing I noticed, on one of the final levels, there are 4 robots to defeat at the end, well, when you defeat them, nothing happens.  However, if you have a bomb, & use it after defeated them, then it takes you to the boss of that level.  I couldn't find another way, very strange.
