TE with both sound a vid issues

So I came across here looking for a fix to the sound issues on my TE (via the link on the TE wiki page) and was wondering if anyone had figured out how to fix the video issues as well.  The screen turns on, and is backlit, but the screen stays black.  I can hear the sound from the games, but no image.  Then, when I connect my Turbo Video tuner, and turn it on, the screen goes from a black image, to a straight unlit black screen (like the LCD actually turned off), but I can still hear the sound from the TV channels. 

After turning the TV tuner on and off, connecting and disconnecting it, and turning the TE on and off (all in various orders) I can eventually get the image to come up.  It will continue to work for awhile, unless I leave it off for more than 5 or 10 minutes.  So I assumed it was an issue with the electronics needing to warm up.  I tried leaving the unit on for a few minutes, then turning it on and off again, no luck.  Tried longer, no luck.  Only way I can get the image to appear is to use the method described with the Turbo Vision.  It takes quite a few tries, but it will eventually come up.

Any suggestions?

The video capacitors are shot, no question.

Agreed.  It that sounds just like my Express.  Both the sound and the video caps are dried out crud, so good luck getting those tiny little buggers out and cleanly replaced.

Hey Bastion, I'm in the same boat, I took my TurboDuo and Express out of some boxes a week ago and found my Duo had brown crud leaked all over, and the express turned on - but had no picture.  I couldn't get my Express to work with the Tuner though.

I've already ordered a game-bit to take the screws off my Duo, but the Express uses Phillips head screws I think.  There's a couple of threads in the forum that talk about replacing the capacitors. 

D-Lite has a post here where he talks about replacing a faulty Audio capacitor on the Express:

I haven't seen anything about replacing the video capacitors specifically, but I'm assuming it's the same general theory, just a different capacitor.  I'm hoping I can get a positive ID on the culprit before making some attempt that may irreparably damage my TE.
