NOOOoooooo, Why!?!?, sob.
« on: April 28, 2008, 05:10:49 PM »
Oh man this just sucks. So I got my turbo-grafx working through my arcade machine, and on a whim started playing Bonk's Revenge. I was only playing half heartedly on expert because the game is usually over for me shortly after Captain Cook (or whatever his name is). Then something occurred to me by the end of the second stage. I was tearing complete ass. Not just like doing good, or a lot better than i usually do, but tearing the game apart. I was getting 1-ups out the wazoo, never went below 9 lives after I had surpassed it, and the bonus stages, my god. Perfect and near perfects like crazy, even on ones I usually completely and totally suck at. Oh and I had maxed my heart gauge by the end of stage 5, and then kept getting more (if the game didn't have a cap I would have had 11 total!) I was even 3 smilies away from the warp, something I only accomplished once in my life! I was having a blast and by the time I got to stage 7, I had this game in the bag, there was no way I was losing, until this...

Yeah that's right, my ass-tearing of the game was so epic and totally awesome that the game was like, nuh-uh I ain't havin' none of that, so I glitched through the area with the blue heart and 1-up that you normally can't get to unless you are crab bonk on world 7. Now I can't get out!!! ARRRGGGGHHHHH! I somehow got stuck in the corner of the opening and managed to bonk and pass THROUGH the platform above me! Anyone ever have this happen? Please tell me I can somehow escape, glitch back out, suicide code, something? Anything? I've never beat the entire game expert let along tore the game apart like I did. I know I will never have such an awesome game of Bonk's Revenge ever again! ](*,)

I don't know. This sounds pretty cool to me. Many people have finished the game, but this is the first I've seen of this kind of thing.

And don't worry, karma will now allow you to destroy the game.  O:)

Sorry, but you're screwed; here's the only code that can help you at that point: Run + Select.  Reset, try again, and before long you'll be able to kick King Drool's ass at whim; then you'll be as cool as me, or someone significantly less goofy.

Damn straight I made up for it! I reset, tore even more ass (something I thought wouldn't be possible!) albinoMithos was there, I just kept replaying the credits over and over just to annoy him! My score was significantly higher too. I now have to get an rgb modded nes and try battletoads on my arcade machine, cause I and significantly better for some reason when I play my games through it. Damn, I kicked more ass than a perpetual ass-kicking machine!

Ah good times.

Tell us more about your arcade setup, how you got the parts and threw it together, and so on? Is this something attainable by someone on a budget?

Well, as of right now all I have connected to my cab is the video output fro the tg16. Although sound and controls aren't hard to do, I haven't done them just yet. Basically I tapped the Red, Green, Blue, Sync, Ground, Audio Left, and Audio Right from the expansion bus internally, and routed them to a 8 pin din. From there I made a cable to plug into the red, green, blue, sync, and ground inputs on my arcade monitor's chassis. I took the sound and routed it to rca panel jacks and plugged a rca cable into the panel and then into some speakers. (only temporary, I will plug into the cab's speaker eventually). For controls I just plugged in a turbo stick into the tg16 (again, only temporary). I will eventually get a 8-pin din or whatever the controller plug is and wire up the controls to the panel. Although for multi player, I'd have to have a turbo-tap in there and then two 8-pin din cables. Another thing I will do is put a switch on the voltage in on the exp. bus and power and route it outside my cab so I can power the system on without opening up my cab.

If you already have an arcade cab its as expensive as the cost of solder, some 8-pin dins, a molex connector (for connecting the lines to your monitor's inputs), a switch, and some wire. So to answer your question yes it is something attainable by someone on a budget, assuming you have an arcade cab.
