Hudson Soft has released details of its fall lineup of games for the iPhone and iPod touch. The company will be offering four new titles in the fall, including a sequel to the well-received Aqua Forest. Knights of the Phantom Castle is a hybrid strategy and action RPG game offering deep character customization including the forging of new weapons and development of new abilities, touch-screen controls, and numerous strategy decisions for the player to make in battle against the enemy. Military Madness: Neo Nectaris is an adaptation of the mobile game Military Madness 2, a sequel to the original and widely acclaimed TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine game Military Madness. In the turn-based strategy game, players will be asked to control armies via touch commands through 50 levels of tactical gameplay. Other features include upgraded visuals and an all-new musical score.

Now I don't feel so bad that I couldn't play MM2 on my ancient cell phone! Of course, I'm still curious about the cellular version, but...

This iPhone/iPod MM2 has me STOKED!

Although I loved the Red Book from the PCE Neo Nectaris (it was refined, elegant), I'm eager to hear something new.

Plus, if done correctly, I think the game mechanics/flow of the game can be greatly improved by not being chained to the standard UI.

Of course, the key phrase is "if done correctly"... I'm hoping that we will get the benefits of a mouse with MM2 on iPod/iPhone.

Nit-picking:
1. The units/terrain look fine, aesthetically, as does the battle screen.
2. However, I'm really not liking the lame, glossy, slick look of the data displayed on the bottom margin of this screen:

3. See the "40%" on the terrain? Ugly!
4. See the pause button? Blah.
5. See the checkered flag? Out of place.

I know I am nitpicking, but GODDAMN, is it really too much to ask for a nice, cohesive look and feel?

Clearly, I have my pet peeves, and with MINIMAL effort Hudson could have tweaked the UI aesthetics.

Dear lord, I have problems. :) And if the game plays/flows nicely, I am happy.

But still... can't we have everything? Like.... new maps!

For those that are having trouble keeping track of all the MM releases, here's what has been released and what's coming, to the best of my knowledge:

1.) Military Madness 2 - adaption/slight modification of Neo Nectaris for cell phones,  2008/2009,  released.

2.) Military Madness for Android OS handhelds -  the original game with new 2D graphics,   2009, released.

3.) Military Madness: Nectaris for XBLA, PSN (on PS3) and Wii Ware, a complete 3D remake of the original game with new maps, September 30.

4.) Military Madness: Neo Nectaris, a further update of Neo Nectaris / Military Madness 2 with new 2D graphics, to be released 2009.
