It crossed my mind sure.  But for me to screw around and act like I bid through the roof on it and then someone bids it up and instantly retrats their bid?  hmmm

I see it happen all the time, both as people trying to find out another bidder's top dollar and to figure out the seller's reserve price.

Don't let the Chinese find out their plastic is worth so much.  They'll spin up the old molds and stuff a few container ships full of it, bound for the US.

I have been wondering if that is, indeed, a "Musical Flying Disc"?

And what are all the other pieces of plastic?  A hand mirror? A mock hu-card? A Strider (SGX) EPROM?

I totally 'asked a general question' about ending the action early to the seller.  I went out of town for a couple days and lost sight of the auction, but the seller replied early on that he would consider it "if I had the right offer." sounds like the seller was hoping this would go for more than $76...

Nah, he was fine with the $76.  I was the runner up bidder and he sent me a message and offered me his "second" one for $75.  I told him I thought the price was ok but I had no protection if he was trying to screw me.  Instead of trying to reassure me he wasn't going to screw me over, he just said he understood.  So if it's all on the up and up, he has another one.
All is well. :)
