Pimp my OS
« on: March 29, 2011, 08:39:57 AM »
Ordering a new PC is probably imminent for me now. It's going to be Windows 7 64-bit, but because it looks a bit like Vista, it makes me sick up in my mouth a little.

Naturally, I've heard of Windowblinds, but what other software is out there, and decent, that will make my new PC look like something cool from a sci-fi movie, and not just another version of Windows?

You don't need to install anything on top of it.  You can tell Windows 7 to have a classic look and make it look almost exactly like Windows 2000.

New PC is here! I'm probably going to try objectdock which looks great and pretty useful. I'll see how things go from there before I decide whether to megaskin Win7 with Windowblinds.

Yes. I've had some problems with it freezing on startup - turning off the overclock seems to have solved this, although once it did have a minor power hiccup after I pushed the on button. Apparently I could do with increasing the voltage in the bios or something. I have no idea how to do that though.

I'm also without my main apps for a short time - so I can't update my site or do any fancy Photoshopping. I feel like I'm missing an arm.

I used a mac-style dock program way back on Windows 2000, but it just seemed to consume way too much system memory and was just in the way anyway. I dumped it.

Despite its cosmetic resemblance to Vista, 7 is quite nice. Best thing MS has put out in a decade.
