Help with a Theron's Quest problem?
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:14:08 AM »
I'm playing through DM: Theron's Quest again after the game sat untouched for many years and I just can't get past the Den of Shadodan. I get the Taza Armor and also kill the dragon for the hell of it, but I can't seem to get the armor back to the entrance. I get to the room with the moving teleporters that push you down to the lower level and can't seem to figure out how to get past it. The sad part is I beat the game before years ago, but my much older brain has failed me this time. I've tried playing through the level several times trying something different each time, but no luck. Can anybody help an idiot out? Thanks in advance.

lol, your not an idiot- I think I know what your talking about.  But for the life of me can't remember exactly what your supposed to do.

Does the room with the moving teleporters have triggers on the ground that shoot you back down to the basement?  You need to get through the room, or rooms and then place all the armour pieces on the entrance display thingy.

Damn, I'm no help- sorry!  I haven't played through the SCD version in a LOOONG time, but I might be able to dig up a VCR tape I made (1997 ish) of the last stage and ending, if I look around.

Playing the SNES or PC versions if I remember correctly were pretty similar, just instead of one GIANT dungeon the TG version had it as more seperate mini dungeons, which I kind of prefer actually.

Good luck, tell us if you figure it out!  :P

It's been a while (a looong while), so I'd have to play it again to help you out.  If nobody can help in the meantime, I'll tackle it this weekend.

When on the second level where the dragon is you take the teleporter behind the delayed opening gate. Zaps you to about the center of that long hall. Opposite side and at an angle from where you standing is another small hallway that I assume you need to make a mad dash to. I have made too many attempts to get to that hall but the teleporters keep catching me and drop me to the lower level at the end of the hall! ](*,) I pretty much gave up for now. Went to playing Ys IV for now and almost finished it. Great game.

I don't know... Seems like no matter where I'm at that moving wall of teleporters just snow plows me into the pits of despair. I'm certain I need to get to that corridor with the forward/backward puzzle so I can make it to the entrance, but I can't... Perhaps I'll try my luck with the game again in another 10 years. Lock the thread! :-({|=

Not that I have seen, but if they are invisible that would explain why. Normally the game provides some sort of note/scroll that hints at the various puzzles on the maps, but I don't recall one mentioning invisible plates. The most irritating part is that I've completed the game before many years ago, so I know I'm missing a minor detail somewhere.

on a whim, I found this:

http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=taxonomy/term/34

see if it assists

I need to go play through the game again.  I had alot of fun with it.  Its a bit different than the other Dungeon Master games, especially Skullkeep, but its still good stuff.

More puzzley than the others.

I've actually found that myself, but while it shows no invisible plates in the floor in the long hall in the center of the map, it doesn't really explain anything either. My guess is having to beat feet across the hall to the to the corridor with the backward/forward puzzle. :-k

I finished that level yesterday, and that's exactly what you need to do.  The timing is a bit tight, but there's enough time if you start out right after the force field passes, just make sure you're moving via the controller commands and not the onscreen arrows.
