MANY MANY TROUBLES WITH MY NEW TURBO DUO, I NEED HELP!..
« on: August 18, 2005, 07:58:40 AM »
many many years i been waiting to put my hands on a turbo duo

well the day finally come but....

well i have to say first i have only about a week with my duo, the system its not new, but its in mind condition

here is the problem

when i first plug my duo to try it, it works ok, well, first of all i plug it on a old monitor i have (a commodore monitor, very good image) then i just play it about... 3-4hours

all seems ok, but then (two days later) i reconnect it into my tv set and works ok, but then, happen something strange, the audio begin to sound...how can i say it, not very good
when i star playing (system power on) the sound is clear but then (15 minutes later i guess) gradually the sound begins to "sound bad" and its not only the cd sound, is general, FX, chip generated music, begins to sounds distorted
and plus all that, know my turbo duo dont want to play CDR's, which i played a couple of days. at least the original software play fine (well the sound problem only)

i dont know why

do you guys have any idea?

well this TOPIC was posted for me on the segaxtreme forums....but nobody seems to answer me, then i entered here and read a lot of topics of this matter, TURBO DUO AND AUDIO PROBLEM.

......so what is the best option for a durable nec console(WELL MADE), THE DEFINITIVE AND DURABLE NEC SYSTEM IS???(FOR PLAY C'MON MY ROOM IS NOT A MUSEUM WITH MACHINES I NEVER PLAY..........I WANT TO PLAY....THEY ARE MADE FOR THAT)

PC ENGINE DUO(I THING THE FIRST DUO IS NOT AN OPTION NOW) ,R or RX
OR
PC ENGINE + CD ROM UNIT

AND WELL THE AMERICAN SYSTEMS TO........

PROS AND CONS OF THIS CHOICES?

ITS TRUE THE TURBO DUO IS NOT VERY DURABLE? well for about 200 bucks you expect a long live system.

c'mon i have my sega saturn, which i play for hours, and my saturn never complains, thats a durable system. and that goes for my sega cd model 1 to (FIRST GENERATION HARDWARE same as the duo)

so which system is the best choice, and step aside the compatibility isue, for that i think a japanese system rules.

the thing is which system has the best manufacture and not soooo "delicate" like the turbo duo seems to be

so any experience with them

DUO, DUO-R. DUO-RX, PC engine + cdrom unit with the IFO-30(interface unit)

which of this system is the more "well made" take in my mind im not only play original games, i wanna play some backups (oh men i just can pay that much for a sapphire)

by the way i been thinking into get the very first model but i dont know, if that model play backups?

because i want to play cdr's

The only system I ever bought and used is the original white japanese PC-Engine together with the CD-ROM suitcase. I bought the PCE and the CD-Rom in 1993, I can't remember the exact year. I use it since then, but lately not on regular basis, except for the CD-ROM. I use it as my audio cd player, on a very regular basis. Some years ago, 1998 or 99 I experienced some troubles loading games from the CD-ROM. But these problems disappeared without any reason like they appeared after some months.
For me the original setup is very durable and looks original... ;-)

But I must say that lately I don't use the PCE that much for gaming. I never tried to play CDRs so I can't say if they are working flawlessly.

There is a known problem with the sound chip on the Turbo Duo, unfortunately there is no real fix for it, though D-Lite is working on the problem

PC Engine Duo-R and Duo-RX have the different internal layout and apparently that fixed the audio problem from what I heard...

personally I use SGX with SuperCD-ROM module..

My opinion is that the Turbo+CD and PCE+CD are the most reliable systems, followed by the DUO R(X).  None of these systems have the same problems that seem to eventually plague most standard DUO systems.

My Turbo Grafx w/CD is going 15 years strong now.  :)  It also plays CDRs without any problems, but I don't have many of those (just the Rigg translations of XAK III and Ys 4, that I created from my own legitimate pressed copies of the games).  The Japanese PCE with CD addon might be a better choice if you want to play a lot of Japanese games.  I know I find that I use a Hucard adapter more often than not, particularly because all od my CDROM system/arcade cards are Japanese.

yeah!!

thats qhat im talking about talking about.

well. i have some cdrom games (original games) i mean, i dont depend 100% on cdr's
the games i like most always try to get the original game.

but as you say the translated games you mencioned and in my case the real expensive ones.

i really love japanese software, specially since the pc engine the 80% of his library is japanese onlysoft

so the best choice i can make is a pcengine+cdrom next by a duo R or duo RX?

Duo R/RX is the way to go.

It's really not any different because the only difference of the Duo RX is that the controller it comes with has six buttons as opposed to 2. You just want the AV jack isolated from the power supply jack.

It's not ST Dragon GUTS; I know his typing too well and he types differently :P .

My Turbo Duo and my PCE+CDROM2 console have been working great, but I myself haven't owned them for a long time but they have been used before hand. I think the best console for you to buy is a PC Engine Duo R/RX.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Best durable model huh that's easy

Duo-R
Duo-RX
TG16 with CD player.
PCE/Core Grafix/Super CD-ROM II

Avoid the regular, jpn Duo it has the same problem as the U.S Duo.
