I see some JN Golf mentions, and that game was ok.. but the other TG16 golf game (mobile and drawing a blank) sucked serious balls.  Why did you have to look in the manual to see the club distances?

Madden sucked too.  Horrible FMV, with guys in embarassingly cheap uniforms, that took 10 seconds to load for a 3 second clip.  I have to say, I would love to see this amazing championship FMV.

As for the good sports, Hit the Ice is the winner by far.  Best sports game, and one of the most fun games on the system.

Here is my opinion on the sports games I've played on the TG-16.  I like them but there are tons of better sports games on the NES IMO, Dusty Diamonds All-Star Softball was great for NES one of my top 5 games for that system. As far as turbo games go.

I played these two when i was young and could appreciate them.

TV Sports Football -- Loved how you had to hold the button to throw the ball for some reason that was cool to me I just really liked the passing in that game.

TV Sports Hockey -- I agree w/ Turbostar in that this was probably the best of the bunch and the most solid of the series.

These I played when I was much older

TV Sports Basketball -- I don't like this one at all, If i remember correctly shooting was difficult for me.

Takin It to The Hoop -- Much more fun than TV SB, but it got old quickly for me.

World Class Baseball -- I grew up an NES guy and there are tons of better baseball games on the NES so I'm not big on this one.  I'm sure other people on here could do it as well, but my friend could strike out the side on 9 pitches every inning against the computer for the 27 strikeout perfect game.

I've played John Madden, and the Tennis and golf games, but not enough to have a strong opinion, I do remember liking that RPG mode in World Court Tennis that you guys mentioned.

I think Power Golf is the other game you are thinking of.

I remember those cheap FMV sequences in Madden they were great

You are probably right Hit the Ice was probably the best game although I haven't played it,  The NES version was supposed to have an RPG mode in it just like Final Lap Twin, and WCT.  I think it may even exist in a ROM or repro-cart

Yeah, you have to look in the manual, but Power Golf is good: http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=3169.0!

Hit the Ice is great.  I've been a fan of goon hockey ever since playing Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel on the NES.  On a side note - Slap Shot on the SMS is very similar to Blades of Steel; I'd almost call it a port.

Yeah, a U.S. prototype was made and reproductions can be found online these days.  The RPG mode in the Famicom version of Hit the Ice was mentioned recently in an article I saw on video game preservation.  I wish I could remember where, because it said something like the "only hockey/RPG ever produced" and "offering a rare glimpse into an era of video games never seen in the U.S."  Of course, I was thinking "HELLO!  There are two different U.S. sports/RPGs right here on the TurboGrafx!"
Anyway, I'm not too interested in the NES version, but I'd like to check out the SNES cart someday and see how it compares to the TG16.

Do you know if NES RBI Baseball was any good?  I got the PCE version (Pro Yakyuu World Stadium) and haven't really tried it out yet.

It is OK it was one of the first baseball games (meaning early on in the system) so there were many better NES baseball games.  For example in RBI Baseball(1) on NES you couldn't dive or jump for the ball, but they fixed that in the two sequels.  I can name 5 baseball games better on the NES INO no particular order

Dusty Diamonds All-Star Softball (AI is poor but I had great competitive games w/ my friends)

Baseball Stars- Someone already mentioned

Little League Baseball

Base Wars

Baseball Simulator 1000

Those along with the sequels to RBI were all better, but the PCE version might not be as dated as the NES one so give it a try and let us know what you think.
