Which PCE games have improved graphics on the SuperGrafx??..
« on: September 06, 2005, 03:49:43 PM »
Is it pretty much every PC Engine HuCard game, or does the SuperGrafx only enhance the graphics on certain ones?

The Super Grafx doesn't enhance normal PCE hucards, except Darius Plus/Alpha.  Darius Plus is compatible with pc-engine and super grafx. Here is a list of the games specifically for the Super Grafx:

1941
ALDYNES
BATTLE ACE
DARIUS ALPHA (supergrafx compatible)
DARIUS PLUS (supergrafx compatible)
GHOULS N' GHOSTS
GRANZORT

And the 'enhancement' is only the reduction of most of the flicker.

Thanks for the info; the flicker doesn't seem bad at all in most PCE games; especially compared to NES games.

At any rate, I got my Core Grafx in the mail today!  Man, is this thing tiny! Shocked Seriously, in pictures I'd seen of it on the internet, it looks like it's the size of a friggin' Dreamcast! (Makes me wonder how big the SuperGrafx really is!)

At any rate, what awesome little system! I have 4 games for it-Galga'88, Override, Soldier Blade, and GunHed! :D

Size was originally one of the PCE's gimmicks. Thats one of the reasons for the Hu Card format(the PCE was WAY ahead of its time, the industry is still catching up).

The original white system and the Coregrafx II are the exact same size and the Shuttle isn't much bigger.

With the Supergrafx, it seems they went the Turbografx route and made a huge shell to instill the intimidating feeling of a super powerful console.

Yeah, that was one of the PCE's strengths, -throwing around lots and lots of stuff, big and small.

Which is probably why it was home to so many great shooters.

It might have to do with the fact that was supposed to have twice the MIPS(millions of instructions per second) of the Genesis, if thats even a real figure.

It might be that even developers who were too lazy to program in seperate scrolling bg's at least divied up the work load between the multiple processors properly so that flicker wasn't normally an issue.

I've found that the Turbo/PCE has even less slowdown than flicker compared to some of its contemporaries.

Those are four excellent shooters you got! Did they come with the Core Grafx? What was the price?

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

No, I got the games off of Ebay; can't remember the price for all the games, but the system, complete with original AC adapter, controller, and AV cable, was only about $74.00-and that's including EMS from Japan.  I got it from www.japangamestock.com , excellent and very cheap site for older import consoles.

BTW, what about the PCE GT?  People tell me I should get one, but I've heard some negative comments about game playability due to the reduced screen size.

The screen size issue is total bologna. The screen is perfect. I used to walk 5 km home at night 3 times a week from the bowling alley I worked at playing Aeroblasters and Dragons Curse(I even used passwords) the whole time no problem.

For a while after my TG16 broke down, my Turbo Express was my only Turbo system and I played it all the time.

Thanks for the info on the GT! :D

I'd still like to know about the weapons counter thing in 1943 Kai, and if there are as many stages as in the arcade version.

That must have ruled playing those games while walking home at night!

Ya, I also played Turbo games during my shift when people wren't renting lanes or anything.

I remember getting annoyed because I kept getting interupted while trying to decipher the passwords in Dragon's Curse.
