Any game over $100 costs more than you will get out of it.  I have paid more than $100, and usually I don't get the 100s of hours to really justify the price.

Totally your own personal problem.  My Progear CPS-2 board has logged 500+ credits since the day I bought it.  In an actual arcade 1 credit = $1.  I bought the board for about $300.  So by buying the game, I saved myself over $200 in
credits alone (not to mention the time and money required to get to my local arcade).

When it comes to the turbo/pc-engine I can't really see paying over $100 for a game.  However, it also depends on what format it's for.  Like SuperDeadite I can see paying in the couple hundred dollars for actual arcade pcb's.  To me that is always worth the price if it's a game you love and constantly play.  For Progear I sure as shit could play that price as well and have no regrets what so ever.  If I paid over $100 for Magical Chase I would kick my own ass.  Everyone has their own price point for their idea of fun though.  I've learned that being on these boards for the past 5 years.  The worst someone could do is buy a game based off of price.  Some get the idea that if a game costs a lot of money and a lot of people want it, then it should be a good game.  Doesn't work that way for everyone.  I just stick to games I know, have played in the past, and will get a shit ton of play time to warrant paying a high price.

For most Turbo games I'd have to agree, Rondo would be the big exception.

As Deadite has said, arcade games are the big exception for value/fun ratio. My friend's Street Fighter Zero 2 board has been played for thousands of credits and only cost about $100. I've played the living f*ck out of many KOF games making them a value at $100 or so (average purchase price of a KOF MVS when a year old or so) but also a pretty good deal even if buying the massively expensive (but otherwise identical) AES versions.

I would pay $1000 for Y's I&II if I had to. Lucky it was a pack-in. :)

Since I am a collector, its doesn't really matter whether I get the bucks out of the game or not (gameplay wise). But what I can say, I even got the bucks out on my Sapphire, for which I have payed proud 32'800yens back in 2000. Had (still have) multiple fun with it. I would buy it for that price again at any time.

My mentality is somewhere between that of collector and player. There are some games I want just because I think it would be neat to own them (Fausette' Amour) But I also want to play it. It looks like an interesting game if not $100 worth of interesting, but I know it's just a matter of time before I get it.

I however would never buy what I consider an absolute shit game (Wonder momo) for the sake of collecting or completeness.... Though I did once buy Altered beast for PCE CD just to avoid leaving a shop empty handed

The original Image Fight for PCE is one of the best "bang for your buck" buys out there for any system. You should be able to find it for less than 20 bucks.
