Banjo Kazooie could be a good example.

Is Super Bomberman R a franchise killer? I say yes.

I think most people would say Bomberman Act Zero is the franchise killer

Most retarded people maybe?

There's at least 10 bomberman games that came after that turd.

I really enjoyed this week's video.

I think an interesting idea for a future video would be series that faced a franchise killer, only to eventually recover many years later and survive.  One example off the top of my head would be Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.  That game nearly killed off the Tomb Raider franchise and it took nearly 3 years to recover with Tomb Raider Legend.  Others here brought up Bomberman which had a few flops, but still managed to survive.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts did spring to mind

I hear Super Bomberman R has sold reasonably well, in part being a launch game on a system with a very thin launch lineup. So we may see more

Alright, rather than having the videos posted sometimes in the "What are you watching on Youtube" thread and sometimes in the "Joe Redifer Reviews Presents" thread (and sometimes cross-posted between the two), they can all go here.

Here is the channel if you are interested in subscribing or doing any of that nonsense.

And here is the latest episode:

Guess who will be the first to point out any games we missed?  That's right, it will be YOU!

Wait, you're the guy from Game Sack? D:

Joe, I just have received the Game Sack Vol. 2 BD and am digging through the bonus videos.

The episode about browsing the web using consoles is quite entertaining and inventive. I love the funny porn segment you did at the end.

I have utter respect for all the hard work you put into every episode of Game Sack after watching the documentary.

Cheers, Clod

Definitely enjoyed franchise killers episode. Also got around to watching piss poor ports, i didnt exactly agree with the akumajou saturn port at first but once i saw their reasons why, i was like damn, was the saturn version that bad?  Despite the quality difference in the graphics and slowdown i do enjoy the saturn version nonetheless

I had no idea that the same people who made Streetwise made Beast Rider.  Man, what a pair of mediocre games.

If you do another one on this topic, maybe Secret of Mana et all would work...?  I was a big fan of the first four Seiken Densetsu games.  The last real releases in the franchise, Children/Dawn of Mana, were more than a decade ago.  I didn't much care for them at their release but since then it seems like the only releases in the series have been rehashes and freemium cell phone junk games.

Streets of Rage 3 was both the last game made in the series and most perceive it to be the weakest in the trilogy.  Was this a franchise killer?

As I understood it, there were several attempts made at making more Streets of Rage games they just never came to fruition due to internal bureaucratic nonsense at Sega.  A reasonably popular franchise not getting a sequel post Genesis doesn't exactly surprise me when you look at everything that company was going through/doing.

I'm inclined to believe that Breath of Fire 5 may well have killed off that franchise.  People didn't seem to like the changes to the combat mechanics and it didn't sell particularly well world wide.  I looked into it just now and found out there was a microtransaction Breath of Fire 6 released last year.  Does that still count as a dead franchise, I wonder?  At the very least I'd argue that the series is completely scaled down from previous incarnations to where it's no longer even recognizable to the console RPGs that came before it.
