I watched this episode on the Vita. It filled me with rage, as now I want to play TMNT and Shinobi on the thing.

Well I'm glad Joe Redifer represents the Turbografx well... because you hardly see PC Engine in any of those retro channels with big follower numbers. And also because of that "Angry PC Engine nerd" video that makes everyone to think that PC Engine fans are whiny little... uh never mind, keep up the good work Game Sack!

LOL they made a trailer? Interesting how he added a "DJ-like" echo to his voice.

Awww man... Dragon Warrior didn't get a spot in Part 1.  :(  Interestingly, I found Phantasy Star III a lot of fun, however I must admit I've never messed with the original on SMS, and I didn't care too much for II.  I do have a Sega Collection on my 360, and it contains all four of them, so I may give em all a shot now.

Bernie passed Phantasy Star II and III along to me in a raffle and I've tried a couple of times to get into both and neither one has been able to suck me in.  I keep thinking I'll give them another go one of these days.

The dungeon exploring in PS1 blew me away back in the day.  I picked up a Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA and have tried getting into the first one again, but that one hasn't stuck yet either....

EDIT:  I just wanted to add that I thought it was a great episode and love the atmosphere of the PS games.  Phantasy Star Online is probably singularly responsible for me holding onto my Dreamcast, though Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur and Space Channel 5 help!

I have tried my damnedest to get into Phantasy Star but, aside from the difficulty, the item naming is way overly complicated! Even the most accessible game in the series, PSIV, drives me nuts with the names of items and spells. It really sucks the enjoyment out for me, but I haven't given up on the series yet.

Great episode.
I've played through every game you covered and mostly agree with your opinions.

Just on a side note Joe, is that a custom plastic case for your Phantasy Star IV?

Yes, it deserved better.

So does my copy of Castlevania: Bloodlines. I would really like to relieve it of its cardboard prison. My copy of PSIV is loose though. I am still looking for a case and manual.
