double dungeons is horrific.

GTFO no its not.

It gives first person dungeon crawlers an arcade style pace, and its amazing for doing so.

Wow I can't believe how many people like Pac-Land I think it is terrible.

I think Dragon Spirit is the best game on the list, never having played Ordyne.

Not really a fan of any of the rest, Victory Run is OK and it has been along time since I played Space Harrier, but I don't think it was all that.

Pac-Land is insofar good fun, because it is a well ported arcade classic of many of our childhoods. It has a lot lot of secrets to discover and is quite challenging in higher levels. it just has this certain nice touch of those early/mid 80s arcade games. the port is nicely done, and iirc it only misses the parallax scrolling from the arcade version.
so maybe judging the pure game without any nostalgic factors, it may be not that well today. but i still think it is a funny unique game of its own.

It must be that there is no nostalgia for me, I missed that one the first time around.  I'm definitely in the minority of this one, I can usually give a game a far shot and have a good time no matter how old or what genre , but me and Pac-Land we just don't connect.  To each his own.

Double Dungeons:No Clue though the happy console gamer sure likes to joke about the game.

Ordyne:decent shoot'em up at best.

Space Harrier:If you don't have it for the saturn or dc get it then.

Pac-Land:Can be repetitive but it's ok beside it's loose controlls.

Victory Run:It's no outrun but i don't find it unplayable.

Dragon Spirit:It has a hard learning curve but i find it decent.

Wow, very different opinions about the games! I already have Pac-Land on the Lynx, so that one is almost discarded for now, as it seems to be a not-as-good conversion, right? I seem to be atracted to Double Dungeons style, but I'm worried it will get too confusing with those huge mazes. Victory Run and Space Harrier would be good but I don't know if they will keep me entertained for long. As for Ordyne and Dragon Spirit, they both appeal to me.

I want to choose only two of them. Any more opinions?

Double dungeons has always been a favorite of mine. Especially with a 2nd player. Also, the game isn't extremely hard until you get to the higher levels so you could have a friend who isn't even that good play along.

Get Double Dungeons and one of the two Shooters.

That way you are getting two vastly different types of games.

It's not that bad.  You can spend most of the time in each maze mindlessly running around gaining levels.  Once you're charged up, then you need to do some mapping, find your way to the shop one last time, and go hit the boss.

I cannot formulate an opinion on Ordyne since I haven't played it enough. But out of the rest, Dragon Spirit is my favorite. It is a good looking shooter with a neat power up system. I always thought it was cool how you would grow an additional head when you increase your firing power. You have to constantly be on your toes as there are enemies below which can only be killed by dropping bombs and also the enemies flying on the same plane as you. Like others have said, it takes a bit to get used to the controls but once you do, it's a lot of fun.
SignofZeta: What a quintessentially PCEFX thread. Someone complains about nothing, multiple Bible-length posts discussing who's a bigger a$$hole follow. You're both pretty big a$$holes. Let's call it a tie.

not only can you grow another head allowing multiple shots, your fire also gets bigger with other power ups

Pac-Land is a nearly perfect port of the arcade. You'll either love it or hate it. People pan it for it's simplistic graphical style, but it's all part of an intentional aesthetic. The audio is 1:1 for the arcade and the graphics are almost as accurate.

It was one of the first TG-16 games I got, right when it was released in fact, so nostalgia definitely plays a part in my opinion of it.

An interesting note is that once you beat the game, you unlock a second game called "Pac-Land Pro." Pro isn't just the same levels with more enemies, it's more or less an entirely new experience.

Most of the games on this list I haven't played (yet), but I want to add another pro-Pac Land post, this time from someone who did not play it as a kid.  (I know it's already scratched off the list, but in case others read this thread in the future.)

I had never heard of this game until a couple of months ago.  I am a platformer nut, though, and a close friend of mine is a big Pac Man fan, so I bought it as a present a few months back.  In short, this game is quite fun but a little odd from today's perspective.  The mechanics are no-frills 1980's action-oriented, power-up-fueled platforming.  The controls do require some getting used to, but the graphics & music are great and the level design keeps you engaged.  If you like that sort of thing, I recommend it!

Well, here's what I remember about these games.

Double Dungeons - Actually kinda fun, though not especially engrossing. There are a series of increasingly large and difficult dungeons. You start each one at level one and must get to the end to collect a letter. When you collect the letters from all the dungeons you can do the final dungeon. You wander around a first-person dungeon attacking. There's not much strategy. It's not really an RPG so much as a first-person dungeon crawler. The interface and play mechanics are VERY simple, and the music rarely changes. Some people get along with this game and some people hate it.

Ordyne - Another PCE shooter. It's OK, but there are shooters I would rather own. I don't feel like anything makes this one stand out in any real way.

Dragon Spirit - Fantastic music. Interestingly themed shooter. The only major problem is the size of your dragon, and thus your hit box. Trying not to get shot down can be a real hassle. Otherwise a pretty great game.

Space Harrier - I enjoyed this far more than I should have. The graphics are pretty good and the music is pretty kick ass. The voice samples are embarrassing.

Pac Land - A lot of folks on this board defend this game. I'm not one of them. I find it rather bland and boring, graphically, musically, and in just about every other regard as well. Sure, it's not Drop Off or Ballistix, but while there's no reason to hate it, there isn't much to love, either.

Victory Run - It's OK if you like these kinds of racing games. I don't.

I'm going to buy a couple more Turbografx games. As there's not much to choose now, I've only found games not mentioned as much when people talk about the best TG games. What are your opinions on these games?

-Double Dungeons
-Ordyne
-Dragon Spirit
-Space Harrier
-Pac-Land
-Victory Run
