My dead laseractive

I was too lazy to pull out my old megadrive to test a third party cart for megadrive. Heck my laseractive is hooked up, might as well just change the expansion pack and try.

*Fizzle*

Well, now it won't work (just glad the PCE pack wasn't in it), smells bad as well.  :(

Not wanting to throw myself on the floor and wail about my own stupidity just yet I wonder if anyone of you out there has any documentation on the machine.

Did you use a step up/step down transformer? I'm assuming you're living in the united states, correct?

Nah I'm living in Sweden and I did use a step down transformer, a big one, 0,5KW so there shouldn't be any load problems. There was this little button on the cart called reset that I depressed, big misstake. The manual being written in Korean didn't make it that much better either.  :(

What kind of cartridge was it? Was it a SMS/MarkIII adapter? I know those have a blue reset button.

The us pak for Sgea will play Mega Drive carts, but not Mega CD games, unless you switch the bios, which you have in your hands.
The US sega pak is cheap on ebay, and pops up often. You can use it on any model laseractive, even the Japanese NEC issued laseractive.
Good Luck.
Laseractive sucks!

Go back to your little tg16 and your little cards, I can use hue cards, cd-rom2 and ld-rom2.  :x

Well, I've dissasembled my unit, the laser is dead and apparently some board is also shot. Gritting my teeth and buying a new unit and now I'll have two genny packs, sigh. Will probably change the region setting and burn a new rom for it so I can use it for my European games instead.

I am a heavy collector of laserdisc, and players,I can give you solid assurence that laser active players suck. They have the lowest laserdisc spec picturewise, and about the only thing that saves the audio is digital out,but no AC-3 so who cares. Its a low end LD player that can play Duo/Sega games if you swap a pak out.O and did I mettion its prone to electronic problems liek frying paks, haveing the power board blow, the laser eye dying after 300 hours of use on many many laseractive owners? All thi sand much more for only $500.00 ebay bucks!!!

I have already stated all this on the other laseractive post on these forums, you should look it up.Sorry it died, but thats what the laseractive does, gamble gamble gamble DIE!!!!
They were not built to last by any means.Even the NEC clone player dies fast on low milage.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

http://www.shacknews.com/extras/lncex/lncex7.x

quote from this review/preview
"But alas, the LaserActive wasn't meant to be. There were a handful of games released for it in both formats, and in Japan there was an additional pack released that let you connect it to your PC, but this one was pretty much dead in the water. The fact that a Sega Genesis + SegaCD cost less than the price of the Sega expansion alone didn't help things, but also standing in its way were reviews that said it wasn't even a particularly good laserdisc player to begin with. And since that was already a niche market...well, you can put the rest together yourself. "

wasn't even a particularly good laserdisc player to begin with, begin with, begin with, begin with........echo sounds here....

BTW the standard useage life of a laserdisc player that is well kept should be 7000-12,000 hours of play.Sad the Laseractive doesnt begin to scratch 1000 for most owners before it breaks down.

I did not buy my laseractive to play my laserdiscs (save the laseractive ones) and therefore I don't really care about it "being a waste of money" and "utter crap". It is a fun machine that I find incredibly versatile. I like it, you don't. That's all there is to it.
