PC Engine Converter
« on: September 05, 2011, 03:43:42 PM »
I have two games for the PC Engine that I'd like to play on one of my Turbo systems. A converter goes for a lot of money though, I haven't seen one cheaper than $150! Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places (Ebay). Are there any other options to play Japanese games? Would it be cheeper to buy a PC Engine? I may have to sell my Air Zonk and one of my Turbo systems to build up some cash to buy a converter. Sorry for the noob questions!

See chop5 for a chopsado solution which is certainly your cheapest option.

A "real" solution would involve region modification on your current console, however.

I never understood the expensive $150 converters when you could buy a coregrafx for $50

Converters have been latched onto by the US collector scene. At that point, obviously all logic goes out the window. They are the same people who are buying Dynastic Hero for $500, or Girls of Hawaii for...any sum of money whatsoever.

In reality, with mods being half the price, and functionally superior in every way, $150 for a converter is just dumb. Like, bad of hammers dumb. You can get an entire Japanese Duo for that on a good day.

How much is a Coregrafx now? I checked Ebay and they are pricey, the only sellers being in Japan.

if you wanna find a core grafx on the cheap maybe you can look for a loose one and then get all the other hook ups seperately another forum member recently went with this route.

If you have a Turbo Express and a Turbo Grafx/Turbo Duo then the Region Converter could be used in both but if you only have 1 system, it is more economical to just have a region mod.
