Any of the nec cd consoles (TGCD, TurboDuo, PCE Duo/r/rx, SCD, IFU) will have on board ram but usually pretty limited so if you play alot of games that required game saves you might also need a Tennokoe 2 memory card to swap your game saves in and out of the console.

For a TG16 you will need a turbo booster plus or the CD-ROM to use the internal memory. For a Duo, Duo-R or Duo-RX you will have internal memory.

You will be able to save a game as long as the said game has the ability to save games. There are some games that save your progress automatically. However, most RPGs have the option to save in the games options. All the memory is built into the system so no memory card needed. However, this is a memory card you can buy if you need one. I never had a use for one other than it makes it nice to be able to move saves from one system to another with it.

It uses a capacitor, not a battery, which, in theory, lasts forever. You have to power the system up every couple of weeks though to keep the capacitor charged.

What about the Tennokoe?  Does that need to be charged periodically?  (Not sure what kind of technology it uses.)

It apparently has an internal lithium battery.

The Tennokoe Bank does, but the Tennokoe 2 uses AA batteries.
