I've added Island Adventure to the list.
My intention is to list original titles, not ports of other games or translations, so something like Mega Man would not be applicable.

Doesn't that disqualify Revival Chase then, since it's a Lock 'N Chase port using graphics from the published Gameboy version?

It's best not to be too discriminating as long as the makers/publishers aren't parasites. The originality of many of these games is questionable: Insanity and MB are "original" in that they're built from scratch , but they're absolutely clones. Mysterious Song is a port through and through, but it got a facelift and extra content. Revival Chase is a port without a facelift, so what? There are also two other games on the disc and the makers clearly set out to support the scene and release a PCE game. Megaman is a port/hack. Ys IV is a regionalization. Island Adventure is demo. Where does one draw the line? These are all shades of grey.

The purpose of a homebrew "Master" list isn't to judge creativity or elbow grease, it's to help new members find games and give independent publishers/programmers some much-needed exposure. Divide the list into different categories if you want, but as long as A) code was edited, B) the publisher isn't a parasite, and C) the game pertains to the PCE, it should be on this list.

Nothing anime4ever has done belongs on this list or warrants anyone's support: SFZ is a prototype he slapped on a CDR. Megaman is somebody elses work used without permission (on a CDR).

Err new criteria. My gut feeling. Probably the best way to go.

I do think that releases should be categorized, even if many titles appear in multiple categories, if only to make it clear to people unfamiliar with them. Physically published games should have their own category, as there seems to be a large number of people across the internet interested in "new" physical releases. Once AbCards are released, those games should have that distinction listed as it's a pretty big deal. Maybe have format categories of: rom, iso, CD(R) and Card.

It would also be good to include, if not descriptions of completeness, at least disclaimers for things like Tongueman's Logic lacking sound and Ultimate Rally Club basically being a demo of what could become a fully fleshed out game.

It's also the only official PCE homebrew port or clone and the creator of the original game has received at least free copies.

What you see is a mockup.  That isn't real gameplay.

I think there is a misunderstanding of what the word port means.

Porting is when you move the existing code over.  In Revival Chase's case, it was a from-scratch remake.  That's not a port.

In the case of Mega Man, that's not even a port.  It's an emulation.  That does not count, imho.

That's not to say it's not a good effort.  It's just not a homebrew effort.  It's a hack.

There should be a list of PCE hacks/translations that is separate from games that were coded from scratch by people.

That's not entirely true:

Not saying we don't need more devs, but I think time is more what we need .... win the lottery, quit day job, spent days doing PCE Dev.  Why does this sound familiar .. . ?

Yeah, programmers, get your finger out!

Anyway, more programmers = less time between project releases. Even some people working on smaller demos or mini games would be cool to keep the output flowing and increase activity and awareness of the PCE scene.

What Paul said.

I might diddle out a few quick chiptunes in the coming weeks with a cute picture or something, just for something to show people and get their boners throbbing.
