Bonk Joystick Topper
« on: December 15, 2011, 02:18:38 PM »
So I was browsing through this old TG16 book the other day:

and at the back of the book was a mail-in coupon for a Bonk head replacement for a wireless joystick:

Has anyone seen one of these in real life?  I'd love to have one, especially if I could use it on my TurboStick.  It's too bad it's just an illustration and not an actual photo of the "BONK HEAD".  Does anyone here know any more about these things?

Holy cr@p, I have never seen that item in a photo, let alone hold one in my hands.

Awesome.

Okay, yeah I can say this is a new one on me and I was really into the Turbo back in the day. Never even knew this existed at all. I'd say to try and contact Acemore, but something tells me they may be out of business.

UPDATE, after putting that address into Google Map, it looks like Attorneys took over the building.

I've asked about this item three times over the years and nobody has ever said a thing.  I also can't believe that nobody owns this book.  Turbo noobs need to do their homework.   [-X

I have the book and saw the ad, but never cared about the topper, as it "looked stupid" according to my teenage self.  It still is a stupid idea.

Ha! One of the sad (pathetic) things I've noticed is that I have a much higher tolerance for cheesy/corny items from the past. Things I despised in my youth (e.g. New Kids on the Block) are fresh for re-evaluation now. Let me be clear—I still am sick of certain NKOTB songs, but I have found a few tracks I *kinda* like.

This Bonk head is totally goofy, yet I don't actively despise it now.

Oh dear lord, time to play some Valis III on a standard pad whilst listening to Lykke Li to cleanse my soul.

It's kind of a novel idea to me, especially since Bonk's head is so round.

If it were someone elses head, say, Dr. Bomb, that would be stupid.

Yeah, I always wondered what that thing on the cover had to do with the TurboGrafx.

I have this book as well (too lazy to scan it right now so I'm hotlinking it):

And it has another cover that makes no sense.

BTW, I'd love to get my hands on Volume 2 one of these days.  Volume 1 (pictured above) is actually very useful for the games it includes.  Great walkthroughs.
