Riot City also has a different final boss than Riot Zone. Honestly though...I think Riot Zone's final boss is much cooler than Riot City's final boss, even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And yeah...every boss can be beaten with a jump kick in Riot Zone...easy peasy...wasn't the case in Riot City...you had to fight hard for your victory.

Hehe, there is also a fun trick to do in Riot Zone where if your life meter is low enough where you can't press RUN to do a special, you can keep pressing run to do a fast repeated jab that will constantly hit the enemey.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I really liked the game. You did have some good normal attacks, and the graphics for that time were actually pretty standard fare for home system. You have to remember,Final Fight for Snes, was crunched/letter boxed, was missing graphics too,and levels, and characters, and 2 player co-op.
The Sega CD version was great, but that system had more ram then even the DUO.
The Duo really didnt have enough ram to do the genere justice, but if the Arcade Card would have been used........
As it stands, its one of only a few beat'em ups for Duo,and its really pretty good. Not a fav,but worth playing from time to time.Def worth having for $20.00-30.00.

I was kinda wondering about Riot Zone/Crest of Wolf as well as far as regional differences go. I used to wonder if the usual females and clothing censorship was present or not.

The music on Sega CD Final Fight kinda killed it for me. Would've been nicer had it had the option of arcade OST and remixed. Or did Sega CD have enough RAM to accomodate both?

It used cd audio for that game, ram was not  a issue for the music.I liked the new music. The whole point back then was to exploit cd audio, and this wouldnt have been the case if you had stuck exact arcade sounding music on there instead.

They did have that option on the Mega CD version of Ninja Warriors, between the original music & remixed.

Riot Zone was something of a mystery indeed.

The gameplay is forgettable, grafx nothing to call home to mom about, and the storyline... wowie.

But for some reason I find myself going thru it at least once a year or so.
The music, man I just love the soundtrack.  Yeah the twister thing is kinda dumb, but don't use it and you dont have to hear it... lol

The trick for the "Super Punch" thing can be taken a step further.  IF you have the Avenue pad 6 with the Slow Motion switch, you can switch on the Slo-Mo and go to town!

Get the boss in close enuff and when your power is nearly depleted switch on Slo-Mo and in ONE puch it will kill him...usually don't put money on it, but usually the bosses Life bar will fly down, the "Super Punch" registers as Several hundreds punch's instantly, not allowing the Boss to even move!!  HAHAHA!!! its actually hilarious the first time You pull it off.

Good luck with that-

I just don't see how you can say the graphics aren't great.  The sprites are HUGE and the backgorunds have plenty of detail.  If there's one saving grace of the game, it's graphics.

Yeah I too am surprised that people here don't think it has great graphics, I think it looks wonderful and easily just as nice as any other beat'em up for a console at the time.

Riot Zone rebuttle

I have played the Arcade game and that is much nicer as far as grafx are concerned.  two player simultanious play.

Its not that the Grafx are bad its just that's not one of the key points as to why the game is fun to play through.  With a little more effort the game could have looked better with two player co-op.  You gotta know that.

If I had to rate the game's grafx on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd say its around the 6.5-7.0 range.

If Dracula X and Street Fighter 2:CE would be around the 9.0-9.5 range then Riot Zone would be about a 7 ish.

just an opinion,  If you want a sweet 2 player simultanious beat-em-up with a ton of replay value I suggest either Double Dragon II or Nekketsu Monogatari(River City Ransom SCD).    DD2 is like a tribute to the beutiful NES classic.

so in review I love Riot Zone, but it could have been better.  The sprites are big and beautiful but they have like 3 or 4 motions per character, they could have moved a little smoother, or at least the two player mode that was in the arcades....

I have to agree, Final Fight for Sega CD's music sucks compared to the SNES/arcade version's. Remixed is nice, but they are weeny remixes. Where's the nuts???

Riot Zone would have been a GREAT example of its genre were it 2-player. I too blame the lack of RAM for most of its shortcomings.
