Okay, I've had enough! Explain your avatar!
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:47:49 PM »
This is a thread for those like me who wonder "What the Hell does his (or the rare her) avatar mean and what is the story behind it*???"

Mine is PC Engine DUO-R logo made to look like a Turbo Grafx-16 Logo.  I made it one day when I was bored and had decided I needed a logo that represents my love for PC Engine but needing to have an "American" flavor...

Proceed.

*meaning why did you choose to use that as your avatar?

Well mine is a picture of a model of the resurrected samurai Taira no Kagekiyo who is the main character of Genpei Tōma Den: Kan no Ni, released as Samurai Ghost for the TG-16. I really love the original game Genpei Tōma Den, and even though both of them are derided by critics they are a couple of my personal favorites on the PC Engine.

At the moment I use Hitsugaya from the anime Bleech.  One of my favourite characters in the series and there was an avatar already available ;-)

May change it to something new soon though.

Mine is supposed to be a drawing of myself I did some year back, to use as a forum avatar...except it really doesn't look like me. It didn't look like me back then and it sure doesn't look like me now.

I have always been into comics, and there is no doubt that Superman is the greatest comic book character of all time (dispute this and get your face punched), so a Superman logo was the obvious choice.  However, it'd be boring to do the standard S, so I mixed it up a bit.  I used a picture of the never completed Tim Burton Superman, which stars one of the all-time great actors, Nick Cage as the Man of Steel himself.  What a travesty this movie was never made :(

I figured there were already enough video game related avatars, so I went a different route.

Mine is just cross-eyed Shinobi which goes wonky if you look at it for a while.  No story, just thought it was cool.  Ironically, my avatar on many other sites are TurboGrafx-16 related either showing the proper logo or the system itself.

There shouldn't be much mystery behind mine; I just took a screenshot from Star Parodier and added my username. :)

From the Wiki:

"William Stetson Kennedy (October 5, 1916 – August 27, 2011) was an American author and human rights activist. One of the pioneer folklore collectors during the first half of the 20th century, he is remembered for having infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan in the 1940s, exposing its secrets to authorities and the outside world. His actions lead to the 1947 revocation by the state of Georgia of the Klan's national corporate charter.[1] Kennedy wrote or co-wrote ten books."

mine's simply an animated sprite taken from the Melty Blood fighting games.
made sense to me, as Khoaku (the character) is one of my favorites, both story wise and play wise.
