Do you have any suggestions for games $25 or less that play well on the GT? Thanks!!

Devil's Crush and Alien Crush are two essentials. They aren't expensive, are great games, and really work great on the GT/Express.

Wait, I'd say although both good, if you're building up a library on the cheap, you don't need both - and I'd go for Devil's Crush every time.

I had my GT for years with 8 games, and there's a thread I started on here last year about portable gaming.  Let me have a bit of a think...

Sonson II as mentioned in the capcom thread is a great, deep game with big sprites that works well.

Any of the PC Genjin games are great too, I'd probably go for 2, others would certainly disagree.

Be-ball is a fun little puzzler that can be picked up on the cheap, and has big easy to see sprites

Puzznic is also great, but suffers a little with the code input hard to see on the screen.  But well worth it.

As far as shooters go, you need to be careful with bullet sizes.  It's been a while, as I tend to play shooters on the big screen, but I think Cyber Core works well, and the soldier series should be good too.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

It's real sad Daimakaimura is non portable, that would go great I think.

Shubibinman 1 or 2 should be pretty good for some Megaman-ish action

Altered Beast does work, but I don't happen to think it's that great.

Motoroader works fantastically, but obviously you don't get the multiplayer

Same as above for Bomberman

Shinobi is cracking good fun, IMO, and if you can get around the horrific scarabs, it's hours of fun.

Surprisingly, Street Fighter II works pretty good, despite the lack of buttons.  But it won't ever feel quite right.

Mr Heli works pretty well actually.

Parasol Stars, didn't spend a lot of time playing it on the GT, but it seemed perfectly playable.

errm..I think... that's enough to be going on with.  There's probably a few more in my collection that I'd pack in the case, but I can't really think of any more right now.  Afterburner II maybe, but it's pretty dated.

What am I saying!  Forgot one of the best shooters on the Engine, which works great on the GT!  PC Denjin, AKA Air Zonk!

Can I think of any more....  Oh Jackie Chan maybe?

Cratermaze would probably work pretty well too.

I've actually played a good bit of dungeon explorer on my express. Aside from the passwords being a bit tricky to make out, I had no problem seeing everything on screen during play.

Well, I can't tell you straight off, but I just watched a quick video, and I'd say you probably won't be able to see your gunfire very well, but more importantly, you'll probably be able to make out the enemy bullets.  The enemies are huge, so that's also no problem.  Incidentally, Gradius is supposedly not a good conversion.  I've never played my copy.

Worth a shot if you're a big fan, but if you only get one horizontal SHMUP, I'd personally go for PC Denjin.

Soop, Gradius is actually a very good conversion. It has an extra stage, uber secret bonus stages, and an intro(sort of). Though, there is major slowdown on later levels. The only things missing are the level names and the Volcano challenge. Have fun, and thanks for the help!  :)

Most Namco Hu card games are good on the GT
I like Valkyrie no Densetsu, its super cheap and a lot of fun
Final Blaster is a good cheap shooter
Splatterhouse is always fun and is playable on the GT

The only games you want to avoid on the GT are shooters with little bullets like The Lost Sunheart or RPGs because text is heard to read but if you don't know japanese that doesn't matter.

Also note if you have any gamer friends with a GT or express get bomberman for some head to head action through the comlink port on the bottom!

I also recommend the switchless region mod that some of the repair guys offer here if you have both TG16 and PCE games

Metal Stoker... Great game, never gets enough love. One of the best soundtracks of any game, ever!! I mean, just listen to it:

Ah, I just checked pcengine.co.uk, and it suffered from slowdown.  Perhaps not the end of the world.

Also, with regards to Namco, I recommend Pacland.  I don't know why, but I really enjoy that game!

Well, I finally got my GT. It an amazing little handheld! Very cool, and much more comfortable to hold than the Sega Nomad!

PacLand! But, make sure you have AC power nearby if you intend to beat the second loop :)
