Hudson Soft RIP
« on: January 17, 2012, 11:56:46 AM »
Guess the handwriting was on the wall when Konami bought them back in November. We should all do something stupid like take pictures of ourselves playing Bomberman / Bonk on March 1st and flood them with memories and well wishes as they're closing up shop.

On the brighter side, maybe we'll get a Bomberman - Castlevania crossover game :-D

Bah! What is a bomb? A miserable little pile of explosives!
The sequel to Splatter House should be called Circle Jerk.

NOOOOOO! Even Konami isn't anywhere near what it used to be in greatness.

Oh I'm sure Konami isn't too far behind. Nintendo and Capcom both had a really bad year. Konami is always very silent with info of that sort (and well, really they're silent about everything). There's really only 6 or 7 major Japanese houses left: Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Squenix, Namco-Bandai, Sega, and Sony. Am I forgetting any?

True that the writing was on the wall with the Konami completely absorbing them, the US branch closing, Takahashi Meijin leaving, and all of their releases (like Bonk: BoE) getting canceled. But still sad. Bomberman seemed to be a consistent moneymaker for Hudson, so I wonder if Konami will still be churning a new one out every now and again.

And I know that the new Bonk didn't look spectacular, but the damn game is finished. Would it really be that crazy of them to just release it? It's a download game, so it's not like they have to worry about packaging, shipping, etc. I mean, shit, they put out the Bonk Home space on PSN just a couple months ago. Give us the game, a-holes!
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

Might as well release it if the money and effort was out into developing it.

I wanted to download it and then throw up while it was on my TV.  This game looked horrible.

If it's anything like Adventure Island: The Beginning, I'm glad we're not seeing it.

I really, really want to like The Beginning, and there are aspects of it that I do like, but the pseudo-2D polygon-based graphic style (which IIRC correctly is the same sort of thing seen in the BoE screenshots) is abysmal.

Sorry to hear that. I was curious about "The Beginning" and was hoping that what it lacked aesthetically would not detract from the game itself (platforming bliss).

Oh well.

I'm with jlued, though: let me play it if it's finished. The same with films that Studios shelve: let me watch them, no matter how horrid.

I know you're trying to make us feel better, Nat, but we're masochists. We want to play every Bonk game. No matter how horrid.
