I sort of got my first tg16 about 2 weeks ago as well. It was actually the same one I broke when I was 5. The rf port was broken so I just did the A/V mod and it works perfectly. Had it in storage for 17 years until now, such an easy fix lol.

Excellent. Welcome back, comrade.

Random: 17 years is precisely the duration of a cicada's hibernation.

Plan: I would buy the cheap/better-in-English* HuCards to play on your resuscitated TG-16. Then, depending on your budget/time/interest, you can (later) get a Japanese PCE+CD/DUO to play Japanese HuCards and all CD's.

*Dungeon Explorer, Neutopia I & II, Dragon's Curse...  JJ & Jeff (ha! I would get both versions!)

Vashogan, do you have a pic of your system with it's new game? You say it looks like a new console. I'd like to see that. So many used TG16's are so scratchy and dusty that it's just sad and I have to wince when I look at them.

It would be nice to see a find in great shape, especially with a new game beside it.

wow, if you think the TG-16 is aesthetically pleasing, what do you think of the Duo?  Or the core Japanese unts?

I don't think I could bring myself to own a TG16.

You really don't know what you're missing.

The TG16 may be twice as wide as the PC-Engine but, when you take the dust cover off, it looks like a big tasty candy bar! Yumm! Yum!!

I bought my current TG-16 three years ago from a dealer in new york. The unit he sent me has not a single scratch on it, and still has the peal off plastic cover for the label on the system. I paid $55 and got blazing lazers for free with it.

Elabit, i was posting in response to shrapnoid, maybe i should have been more clear. the point was that it is possible to find them in very good shape even after all these years.

Besides form factor and integrated system card, is there any advantage to a turbo duo over a tg-16 with cd attachment?  Is there any reliability issues with the tg-16 cd player?

The ability to use PCE controllers is one - there's a much wider variety of controllers available for PCE than turbo.

Hmm, that's a good point.  Aren't there converters available though?

The reason I ask is, I've been looking into getting a duo of some sort (pc or turbo) and then maybe a base system from the opposite country so I have most of the games covered.  Because of this I havent really been on the lookout for a tg16 cd player but one just popped up on my local craigslist with a tg16, CD and base, the carrying case, and 35 games for 350.  The games alone caught  my interest but I'm not sure I really want the tg16/cd setup . . .
