Rare Hucard Converter - Take 2

Stop polluting my thread

Since bust3dstr8 feels we are polluting his thread, I figured I should start a response thread....

Doesn't AAron run the board? And aren't all members allowed to post in most threads? Since when does any one person 'own' any thread?

Do I care about chopsado..NO
Do I care about how to make a facsimile...No
Is this Ebay pricing or Gilberts Flea market pricing....No!!! It's my damn pricing.

Okay. we have it in writing. The guy is only here to <try to> sell things for outrageous prices. Got it.

Quote
Make me an offer or GTFO here.
Why bother? I don't collect things like that. Especially when there are cheaper alternatives.
If you're actually expecting to sell that here, you're in the wrong place....We play games, not speculate on what they will be worth in the future.

Fwiw: If you think about it, that "extra wire" has to be for grounding one of the pins on an internal chip. I remember reading here that some games require that to play.
So it's probably a regular diving board that some one modded, and it probably wouldn't work without a modded system. Not sure about that (you might be able to use the connector pins to do the grounding), but it wouldn't surprise me, either.
.............
FrozenInTears: yeah, chop55 (I think that's the nick) will hook you up. And very cheaply from what I remember.
Be nice though - if you're willing to spend more than $50 for a converter, just ask about bulk pricing for the chopsado. You will probably want more than one :)

Arkhan: Why? I finally got the parts, and just need to put the thing together. I told you I'd build you one, and that's what started the whole ABCard thing. As soon as I get a week or so to do it, I will :)

And the confirmation came in just before I hit 'Post'

It will work on a Turbob Duo if the extra wire is soldered on.

Note: soldering skills and screw bit required, but not included :)

Didn't all the green diving board converters come with that "extra" wire? I don't think it was modded, that's how they're made. Here's a pic of mine that I got from a local retro gaming shop, which also works on my Duo.

SignofZeta: What a quintessentially PCEFX thread. Someone complains about nothing, multiple Bible-length posts discussing who's a bigger a$$hole follow. You're both pretty big a$$holes. Let's call it a tie.

I'm not sure if they all came with the extra wire, but many did. It's nothing special. I'm pretty sure this is the lest desirable of all converters anyway.

There are rules, or at least "common decency" about thread crapping in sales threads (unless gouging, etc.)...though most have missed busts trolling you in this one ;)

Yeah, I always thought it was considered the "crappy" converter.  Kisados were the shit bitd.  And I know I sent mine back when I initially got it, but maybe I'm assuming it was because of the extra wire, or maybe it just didn't work. :P  Who knows - that was nearly 20 years ago.  Memory gets fuzzy.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to screw his 'sale'. The post he went off on was in response to someone asking why something wasn't done. I posted the reply where the poster who asked would see it.
I'm just surprised that he expected anything other than being mocked.
Of course, when he doesn't sell it, I'll have to sit through him 'bumping' the thread every other day for a month,
before he gets the hint. <sigh>

At least I now have some more information about the board. It's not "Rare". The extra wire is to make it work on a duo.
And I was wrong: they do actually come that way. Can anyone confirm that it (the wire) has to be installed inside the duo to work?

Nothing needs to be done to a Duo for this converter to work.  I really don't understand why an extra wire is needed for it to work on the Duo - one would think if a HuCard works in both systems then this should as well, but I don't know diddly about how these things work (and am thankful there are folks here who do!).

Yeah I don't get the "collector value" of those kind of converters. True people will probably pay a lot for it on eBay, and if it was one of the nice converters which have covers/packaging like these ones I could say paying a bit for one:

But if it's just a bare circuit board that juts out of the system then why wouldn't you just go buy the cheapest one possible? It's just a tool like an extension cable. I'd pay extra for an officially released one, or at least a nicely made aftermarket one, but if it's a bare-bones tool, then it's not worth anything beyond it's functionality to me.

For $175 you can easily get a working DUO or a PCE CoreGrafx with hook ups and enough left over to buy several games.

I'm sure people are just looking for a converter though, so if you he lowered the price a bit someone would probably grab it.

Back in the day i had a type of surfboard converter. I say "type" cause i dont remember were i got it, or who made it. I do know that it did not have that wire. Then again, it did not work with every game either.

I had 2 of these Diving Board converters years ago (one with the soldered wire and one without). The one without the soldered wire does not work on the Duo.

At the time i had the converter, i had the tg-16 cd combo. I did not own a duo yet, maybe thats why mine worked with some games and not others.

yeah that's what makes no sense at all. It's gotta be purely for collectors value. I'm sure most of the people who pay top dollar for these converters already have a DUO or PCE etc. They just like to collect Turbo items thats all. Probably someone out there has like 10 converters in their collection and never uses them at all. They are just on display.

I was one of those people who really wanted to play PCE games on my US Turbo, but thanks to this forum I am just gonna look for a PC engine later on, it's like 3 to 4 times cheaper lol.

It is possible that there are many others like I was, who had no idea about the fact that you don't even need a converter.

I think it's mostly for collectors purposes imho.

oh hey, thats right, you still have the chrome TG-16 sitting over there don't you? ;)   RIP.  It was a fine machine!

I offered 50$ since it would make a pretty sweet belt buckle, or door stop!
