I spent a little under $40 for Spriggan. . . $50 is pretty much my max on a Turbo or PC Engine game.

But I have been wanting to own Rondo of Blood pretty badly these days.

I'm just curious, do you guys that don't want to spend more than $30 - $50 or less on Turbo/PCE games buy current generation games at full retail price? Or do you wait a few months for them to plummet?

Try a few years! I just got Gradius V for PS2 last week. CIB, $13 from GS...I had a gift card for 6 months bugging me to use. I spy a Raiden III($6) and Red Star($3) next, both loose. I waited for price drops on Bayonetta, Raiden Fighters and Death Smiles for my 360 before picking them up.

Also for those with price limits for Turbo/PCE games, do you try to buy only the cheapest of the best games until there's nothing left on the lower end and then plan on approaching your price limits for special games or do you just buy random games at random prices within a set price range?
I picked up Power Golf 2 for $1...for a buck it's not bad at all. I got the Battlefield Wrestling for a dollar also just so I could have another ACD spine. So yes, I will buy trash if it's cheap, but I have no qualms about selling them off or donating them later. My income dictates me to not buy OMG R@RE$$$$ and I'm old enough to resist the urge.

P.S.  This common fantasizing/obsessing over the small handfull of high end $ games, yet ignoring the massive library of good to GREAT PCE/TG games on the cheap really is a travesty.

Amen.  Pissing and moaning that the Turbob is a ripoff makes little sense when 90% of the library is priced similarly to the PCE.

THANK YOU. I am sick of this whining, too. I hate that some titles are too expensive and thus beyond my reach...but I'm not going to complain about it incessantly.

I splurged on a few titles.  Here are few that are worthy and the price I paid and ceiling willing to pay:

> Nexzr - $130.  I was willing to pay up to $150 for a CIB spine one.  After I got it, I was so blown away on how awesome it is.  I then got lucky and found another one CIB for 80 bucks bringing my avg cost to 105 each.  (since then already sold it off along with my Bazzy)

> Bazzaru - $350ish paid for a unopened copy in a store, my ceiling was 200 but it was the only one I ever seen avail so i picked it up.  since then I bought another one also sealed for 200.  so avg out to $250, which I deem fair for a sealed version.  still on the hunt for a loose copy cheap to play and enjoy the heck out of.

> Ys 1&2 US boxed sealed - $130.  This one I would have paid up to 150 I think. I love Ys and it holds special value for me.

> Downtown Nekketsu - I would pay up to $200 for a gem mint condition copy of this.  In fact after I traded mine to Hoobs I found one in a store which I dropped $160ish for.

>Sapphire - I paid $200 years ago on jp auction, got lucky it was gem minty with all inserts and not a bootleg.  If the market is clean and I didn't ahve to worry about bootlegs, I would go up to 300-350 ish for that, it IS worth it.. prob the only Arcade CD that is worth getting the system card for too...

as for the rest of the titles, it depends on the completeness, condition, which the x-factor being my enjoyment factor/memories of that game.

My limit is probably $150. Higher if I have gift credit. Doesn't matter to me that new games these days cost $60-$80. I use that benchmark as a look back at what games retailed for and if they are around their original retail price, used (or perhaps new), then it's worth getting.

Rondo is probably the most expensive game I have purchased, picked it up for like $90 a couple years back. That's probably the most I ever will spend on a game. I have current gen consoles but what I like about retro gaming is by the time I pick up a current game that I was interested in, it has dropped to a "greatest hits" price. Some of the HD collections I have picked up brand new however because the price wasn't bad (Metal Gear HD, Tomb Raider Collection).

I may get lynched for saying this....But...  if its a game I have been wanting, and I come across it even at a high price, I most likely will get it.  Luckily, the two most pricey titles I wanted in my collection, I already have.  Beyond Shadowgate and MM III.  :)

Akumajou Dracula is by far the most attractive title of this system for me. For titles that interest me to such an extent I am willing to pay the high prices, over 200 even but I've never had to go that high for any game before.

Anywaste, since Akumajou is the prime title of the entire PC Engine library for me I doubt I'll ever pay over 80-90 for a game on the system.

Eventually I'll be looking for the US Dungeon Explorer 2... always wanted to play that one when I was a kid, but could never afford a Duo or CDRom attachment for my Turbo when I was 13/14. I had so much fun with the first one when I was younger, I owe it to myself to pick up the sequal. I've seen them go for around $150 on Ebay, so thatd probably be my max

oh yea I dropped close to $200 on the rare Crazy Hospital unlicensed release and close to 200 on FaceBall promo disc.  given the peculiarity of the titles I dont regret both.  The faceball is actuall fun.  Crazy Hospital I barely played, didn't have the patience to go thru all the menus just to see nakes anime chicks
