Most I've spent:

$140 Mint DE2
$100 Sealed US Cotton (Yes, I opened it!)

I wanted to spend up to $100 on JPN Magical Chase and Beyond Shadowgate but that isn't too likley these days.

I'll pay from 50 cents up to few hundred bucks. Easy, I pay what a good price for a game today is. You won't ever find a sapphire, bazaaru, sylphia for under 50 bucks nowadays, unless you're the uberlucky guy having the six numbers in the lottery twice in a row.

The most I have spent (so far) on turbo and pce games are Cotton and Rainbow Islands, both I got for $50 a piece. Hardly a bargain by all means, but you have to consider even brand new imported from Japan back in the day they usually would go for at least $70. As far as U.S games go, most I spent was on Jackie Chan and Neutopia 2 for $26 a piece loose from one of our fine gentlemen on these forums. ^^

as far as new games are concerned, the only game i've bought "new" was catherine, and that's because i was beyond psyched for it.
but usually i wait til it's $30 or less, i've got plenty to play in the mean time.

personally, i buy the games that i want to play at that point, unless i find a good deal.

Modern games I've stuck to $40 or less (save for Disgaea 4 ULTIMATE MEGA set).

Some people in this thread have VERY optimistic thresholds on certain games (especially in the current market).

Have more than a few of us over payed/jumped the gun/gotten in a stupid bid war we should have walked away from....of course.  Luckily a lot of those same people learn patience, and common sense is the best policy.

P.S.  This common fantasizing/obsessing over the small handfull of high end $ games, yet ignoring the massive library of good to GREAT PCE/TG games on the cheap really is a travesty.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

This thread is Sadler flamebait. I'll pay whatever the f*ck I want for a game. If I deem a game worthy of $1000, I'll pay it. If I think a game is only worthy of $5, that's what I'll pay. I'm not going to list "rare" titles here, but I will say there are probably a dozenish titles I'd pay over $100 for in the US library. And no, I don't care if you can get it cheaper on the PCE.

DISCLAIMER: Don't ever put games before necessities. If you can't pay your bills, paying for any game is stupid. If you can afford it, it's none of my business what you pay.

I totally agree with you on that one. If you cant pay your bills but yet your buying every game you see then you deserve to loose it all.

I have other hobbies besides Video Gaming and to be honest most of my extra monies go towards that. Ive past up good deals on games to get a few Replica's of Puppet Master or Freddy Krueger stuff. Horror is my first passion everything else if i see it at a decent price and if IF i got the money ill grab it.

But once i hit my mark for the mouth i stop buying and hunting for deals.

kinda like going to Vegas, You go for 5 days you label 5 envelops and put $500 in each for each day. Once you spend it your done, That way you don't blow all of it in 1 day. That policy has always worked for me.

My personal rule is, I pay £1 per estimated hour of enjoyment.  I almost NEVER buy new games full price, and will bargain hunt, or just wait 6 months/a year until they're around £10.  Exceptions to this are Prof Layton games (Xmas treat! ^___^) and maybe soon Ace Attourney - though so far £5 and £8 are bargains.

However I do tend to break this rule for PC Engine games.

Anyway, I have a huge list that seems to keep growing, and if I sniff out a bargain, then I can cross it off.  But to be honest, if I won the lottery tomorrow, it would kill half the enjoyment of collecting for me.

no you don't. a pce game can give you an infinite amount of fun hours, therefore according to your calculations, it must cost infinte of bucks, but which isn't the case by far. so as long you buy pce games, you can't lose. and the price doesn't even matter.

heh, nice logic there tats :)  You are right in a sense, because even though I do spend more, I generally get them for good prices, and they tend not to dip in value.  So I actually get paid to play them... If I were ever going to sell them.

But I have a nasty habit of buying games and not playing them.  Or at least stopping halfway through.  I keep telling myself that I'll play them one day...

Says the guy that buys $5 Duos and finds boxed Super Famis in the trash.

Amen.  Pissing and moaning that the Turbob is a ripoff makes little sense when 90% of the library is priced similarly to the PCE.
