So if you *do* judge a book by it's cover...
« on: February 19, 2012, 11:00:52 PM »
What's the best game on the PCE?  Judged purely from box-art?

Totally stole this idea from here: http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=11122.0 but I decided to post it her because the PCE has better box-art in general than TGX.

My vote goes to...  Hmmm.  It's out of Afterburner II, Super Star Soldier, Garou Densetsu, Snatcher...

I choose Snatcher.  It would still stand out in a good way today.

Hope Paul doesn't mind a hotlink:

That is good.  Where did the really clean image come from?

It has to do with personal preference.

I havent judged from box art in a long long time. Usually games with lots of love inside them, have reasonable box arts, that gives a reasonable description.

You have to understand that one set of people consider games to be like books, film, and other important media.
While others considered it a toy that is a waste of time.
But all of them are reasonable, and talks to differnt audience.

Take uhm...drop rock hora hora, it is nice imagery, encouraging the player to finish the game. Meaning the
player really wants to finish this game.

rather then having something like Hatris, which clearly has nothing to do with anything. It is just a bunch of hat shaped objects.

I must say, your English has improved quite considerably recently.  And yeah, there are some...abstract covers out there.  There are also some plain bad ones.  I kind iof don't want to play Splash Lake, just because the cover makes me thow up in my mouthh a little.

The actual cover of Snatcher looks much different and would lead you to believe that it's a dating sim.

Super Darius is as epic as Side Arms.

Oh yeah... it says CD ROMANTIC doesn't it...

Maybe I should revise mine.  I reeeeally like Afterburner II, but that might be because it has such a place in memory.  Oh I know!  Gunhed!  I love that cover.  And we all know what it looks like.  I even love the '89 bit.

No shit it is!   I also think the Altered Beast cover is awesome,

and basically any RPG has a nice cover.

I really like this cover.

It's not spectacular (and thankfully not space related) but it got me curious right from the start.

There's actually a few games that use photos of (what seem to be) clay models.  Like the manic Honey on the road.  I've never seen the like outside the PCE, though they may exist

Star Parodier has one of my favourite cover images. Forgotten Worlds, Genpei Toma Den and Daimakaimura are really cool as well - like the covers that are painted well.
