I like how the TurboGrafx-16 and the Turbo Express have completely different resolutions and sprite capabilities.  I also like how the Master System has more vertical resolution than the Genesis.  Nothing can compare to the amount of research done by the knowledge wizards over at EGM.

I pretty much agree with you. Lol @ the genny after burner ratings. According this the pce AB must get like a quadruple 16 score, at least.

A lot of Japanese mags got system specs totally wrong (4096 colours on the SuperGrafx) and the US and UK mags just happily copied them.  Not exclusively EGM's fault.

Ah, this brings me back. Used to read game mags like EGM and Game Pro all the time as a kid. Might have had this very issue.
Magazines like these were pretty much the only information on game system and releases before the internet.

Obviously don't agree with them on a lot of stuff here, but love how much they hate this SNES in this issue, though.

Man, I jus got rid of (donated ;)) all my old mags including all this. Makes me sad. But I was honestly sick of lugging around boxes of mags to be ignored in the basement. But still sad.

That dude gave Parasol Stars a 4. My God...

And what's with their boner for Sherlock Holmes? "The wave of the future!" :D "The type of game we'll be playing two years from now." What excellent foresight these guys had! Let's see...would I rather play Parasol Stars or Sherlock Holmes? Hmm...
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

Well, to give them a little credit those WERE the kind of games people were playing 2 years from then with the Sega CD, CD-i, 3D0, etc. Unfortunately most of them were terrible. But it's interesting to see the reaction to adventure games peppered with FMV when it was the big new thing...

Parasol Stars getting a 4 is just ridiculous, though back in the 90's gamers and publishers in general seemed to want to distance themselves from the "kiddie" type games and move towards more "cool" and "mature" games. Makes sense, but trashing a great game just because of colorful graphics and simple gameplay is a bit shortsighted to say the least.
