PAL TurboGrafx peripheral compatibility
« on: February 27, 2012, 11:37:37 PM »
I know the PAL TurboGrafx uses TG16 not PCE/Duo controllers. But does anyone know if it's compatible with the Turbo Booster, Turbo Booster Plus or CD-ROM?

Well, it wouldn't make sense to be compatible with the Turbo Booster, as it includes RCA just out of the box. TB Plus and CD-Rom, I'd like to know, specially the later.

I'm curious if the TurboBooster would effect the video output, perhaps from PAL to NTSC. It remains a question mark for me as well.

I doubt that the TurboBooster is going to be performing any video conversions. It just passes through the existing video signal does it not?

I have a PAL Turbo (for the hell of it) and a Turbo CD, but I'm not sure if I wanna chance hooking them together. Would be bad if it damaged either or both. ](*,)

Good point, this makes me curious of both the risks, and if anyone has tried it before.

PAL is not a different unit.
its a mod

all accessorys should connect fine.
even with the booster it likely will still be PAL

In looking through the pictures I have of the inside of the PAL unit it does have different components (and casing).

I've heard the regular US power supply will power it on though, so perhaps it's not that different at all.

I posted a video on here of the PAL TG running the Turbo CD. It was easier for me to test the TG hooked to the Turbo CD than digging out the unique hookups. The TG pinouts are the same and the Booster works too, but the TG still runs slow and CD games with CD will be out of sync.

DC requirements of the systems would be unchanged I would assume. The AC requirements would be the only thing that would change between the two since the power setups are different between US and Europe.

Any chance you still have a link to that video?

What kind of display did you output it to?

That video was shot of a 1080p lcd that supports PAL and runs 240p games smoothly. I also tested it with my 480p projector which also runs PAL at correct speeds. My capture card won't let me record straight PAL video. It supports it, but the first time I ran it I had to choose NTSC or PAL only.
