Best Sega CD shooter?
« on: February 28, 2012, 05:55:19 PM »
I havta say Robo Aleste is #1 because of the awesome music, story and gameplay.

Silpheed is close second, because of the great twitch game play.

Android assault is pretty good too, with some rocking tunes; it's at number 3.

Keio Flying Squadron

Bari Arm would be a close 2nd.

and, IF Lords of Thunder didn't came out on the Turbo, that would be the best for sure.

No Sol-Feace? Not saying it's the best, but it's a solid shooter that a lot of people who bought the SEGA CD played since it game with the system at one point.

Please, Robo all the way.

Lords doesn't exist, IMO. The Sega CD version is bland looking due to the Mega shit ball color pallet. Also, aren't there musical differences? That alone would also kill it.

I have all from the poll(even Sol) except Lords, since I have the TG release instead. I voted Robo but Keio is a close second. Genesis and SegaCD have some good shooters and worth owning(Musha, TF3, Wings of Wor, Trouble Shooter, along with the ones from the poll) but nothing that compares to the mass of good Turbo/PCE titles.

(^^^I wonder if Sega-16 or other Genesis fan site ever made such a diplomatic quote.)

PS: I do not own the moneys-games like Gley or Eliminate, the ones I mention are in my personal collection.

I would actually vote Sol-Feace for being my personal favorite, but maybe not the "BEST". It just has a Turbo feel to it, know what I mean?  speaking of that- I just realized I have two copies!! Anyone want my dupe?

I really like the music, aesthetics, theme and feel of Keio. So I'm going to agree on Keio.

What I really wan to know is what the best FMV game for sega cd was. For me it's a tie between Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch or Kriss Kross Make My Video

Robo Aleste is my personal favorite. Silpheed is a close second, but can be hard and looks a little rough at times... still fun as hell though.

BTW, the first version of Lords of Thunder I played is the Sega CD version back in '96 I bought used. I was blown the hell away with it to be honest. The music in that version to me sounds better for two legitimate reasons actually.

1) Yes, it is the first version of the soundtrack I listened to and I liked it then and still like it now.

2) It has a less overproduced sound with a more soulful feel to it. It just has a more raw and rough feel, which is how real metal music should sound. It sounded like a real band playing it instead of it actually being recorded for a video game or anime. Old school Metallica vs. new Dream Theater is the way I view it. It just has a more natural sound and more balls!!! I love the Duo version of the game overall better, don't get me wrong. I just really prefer the Sega CD version's music. I have listened to a lot of Metal music like Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Metallica (up to black album) Tool, Deftones (up to White Poney), Kyuss and Pantera. I could never get into bands like Dragon Force, Dream Theater and that other clean overproduced recorded stuff. It has to make you want to break shit, or it isn't working. Not that I do that, lol.
