Ah, OK, so there is a chance it could work again if both video and sound capacitors were replaced ? I looked at some of the guides ( http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=5303.0 ) so I might as well give it a shot. Before reading around here, I thought the problem was something worse like the board, ICs, etc. and that it would really need a professional but it looks like there is a typical way that TE units break down, and that the main source of the breakdown is the capacitors.

At this point all the capacitors shoukd be changed.  Dont stop at just the two audio and one video cap.  Thats just a bandaid.  Like was said... its not an expensive repair to have done.

Definitely caps issues. I have worked several of these units before and all they needed were all caps replaced.

Yeah, that sounds like mine before Beamer worked his magic on it.  I tried repairing it on my own but I'm all thumbs with a soldering iron and gave up.  I've had 3 systems worked on by 3 different forum tech-gurus here and all have been very positive experiences, and easy on the wallet (most were done as a trade so I only paid shipping out to them).

turbokon offered a good deal: $35 for full capacitor replacement with return shipping included. That's a lot less than what I would've expected.

Told ya.  These guys aren't in it for the money, but more so to keep us playing.    They can fix your Duo up too.  I've had a few of  mine worked by BlueBMW.  He's added region mods, replaced caps, and added A/V jacks for me on a few systems.

Just added a pic of my TE I modded myself with the switchless region from bluebmw and the composite video out. Mad props to thesteve and bluebmw for discovering these amazing mods.
