quick question on arcade card pro
« on: March 20, 2012, 08:52:21 AM »
I ended up getting one for 22 bucks on ebay and since it was cheaper than the cheapest arcade card duo I nabbed it. Just to make sure will it work with the Turbo Duo-R?

thanks in advance

I believe it will.  Only difference is that the Pro had the other BIOS needed when used on a CD set-up.

Yep, it'll work dandy; I use a Pro in my Duo all the time.

Only difference is that the Pro had the other BIOS needed when used on a CD set-up.

That and the additional Super CD ram not present in the original cd add-on.

thanks for the answers.

Now this is pure sillyness and mostly curiosity to a question I think I already know what the answer is going to be. the arcade card pro has apparently 17.5 mb of ram. since the duo already has the 1.5 of the 3.0 built in does it actually see the extra super cd ram in the arcade card pro or does it just treat it like the arcade card duo? Silly, I know but just curious if anybody has compared loading times between a pro and duo on a duo-r :P

I would just get the matching cards for the matching systems. The orange card is meant for the suitcase systems, while the duo card is specifically meant for the duo machine. More ram does not make a difference of memory locations.

why should he take a AC DUO, when he can get the AC PRO for less?

even it doesn't bring him any technical advantages, it also doesn't bring him any technical disadvantages.
but who knows, maybe one day he will own a briefcase and then he would be double lucky with the PRO.

I think there was a thread some while ago in which someone opened up a AC PRO and showed how its construction was much more complicated than an AC DUO, and for some specific reason more vulnerable to breaking down. AC DUO's on the other hand are apparently much less likely to break. That much alone is maybe worth the additional few yen for a cost of an AC DUO.

Is that a fact? just because there is bit more stuff inside (which is obvious), doesn't mean it also have to break down faster. even I have DUO card I always ues my PRO since a long time, and no probs so far. sure I am just one example may be out of thousands.

It's not that it'll break down faster, but rather that there are more points where it could fail.

Bonknuts took his apart.  The reasoning is valid.

Dangit, I just spent 15 minutes searching for that thread and you beat me by 1. :P

Anyway, I guess there isn't a weak spot per-se, but if the AC DUO only costs an extra dollar or so, it may be worth the peace of mind.

My primary game machine is a US TurboDuo, and I use an AC PRO exclusively because a) I bought it when all I had was a standard TG-CD and b) I'm not limited to using it only on the Duo. I can use it on anything with a CD drive.
