We're from all over the place, so what food is your city/prefecture/whatever known for?

I guess for me, it's probably pies.  Pie and mash.  There's a great place called Pie Minister over here that started in my town:

I'm told NC is known for BBQ, in fact we have two kinds...Eastern and Western(aka Lexington). I love pork, so I'm not as picky as others in my area. My girl on the other hand only eats sliced whereas I like the chopped with the "funny bits". Also, most good barbecue resturants are little hole in the wall ("cash only") joints...and that's a good thing!

But hot wings and cold beer is my favorite food, and we have East Coast and Ronnies to keep me happy 'round here.

Well I live in Kobe at the moment, and the first thing that come to most people's mind is Kobe beef:



Very tasty but very expensive. But the local delicasy more commonly eaten around here by local people is horumon (literally "throw away parts"). Basically the guts. I like the flavor but hate the texture so I very rarely eat it myself.

We have loads of awesome food here in the Philippines, but I think one of the strangest, yet most sought after by thrill-seeking foreigners is the "Balot" (premature duck egg).

Once you get over the idea of it being premature (chicken eggs are actually premature to a degree when you think about it), the thing is pretty awesome. It's tasty, brothy, and pretty filling on its own, needing not much more than just a dash of rock salt and an open mind.

Buffalo, NY has many local dishes, but the most famous are:

1.)  Chicken Wings - Here's a picture from my favorite place to get them, Nine-Eleven Tavern.



2.)  Beef on Weck

Columbia's not famous for anything except Hootie and the Blowfish and Gamecock Baseball.... but we do have mustard based barbecue (usually done buffet style)

My hometown has some of the best sports fishing in the world and fishing shows are always filming along one particular nearby river. The city is right on the ocean as well and commercial fishing is one of several local major industries.

Salmon and halibut are the two big local draws. One place in particular had what was likely the best fish 'n chips in the world, but tragically shut down a few years ago after losing their location. Most people grill salmon.

Dungeness crab is also a local delicacy and I worked for a crab fishing company for a while.

I don't think we're known for anything.  There's alot of Sushi joints in the area.  I live in a suburb of LA, so....is LA known for any type of food?  Oh, there's alot of Mexican joints as well, we've got quite a few decent one's in my area, & there's one a bit out of our way we go to called El Torrito Grill, which is like an upscaled El Torrito.  They serve bottomless fresh tortillas with your meal.  I usually put some sugar & honey butter on them, friggin' tasty if you ask me!

Arugala al Limone + thin crust pizza + Broccoli Rabe (lots of garlic!) = heaven

I live in Northern New Jersey (East Hanover)...where we have the BEST delis with REAL subs, pizza, calzones, etc. and Italian restaurants. This is the easy answer, because the Italian-American community is concentrated in my area. Fresh gnocchi, please.

Of course, we have the best BAGELS, too... and the JALAPENO BAGELS available at my local shop kick ass. I love watching the bagels get pulled out of the oven and dumped into their baskets. Awesome.

But, if I had to choose one thing that I would NEVER want to give up, it would be the amazing local bakeries, especially Sorrento's Bakery. I am a connoisseur of bread, and Sorrento's never disappoints. Also, one of the reasons we have the best delis in Northeast NJ is because the local bakeries supply excellent bread/rolls.

I am 100% in love with carbohydrates.

I've lived in many, many places in the US...and I can tell you that there are no REAL diners or delis outside of northern NJ/NYC. The world is full of   bizarro subs, bagels, etc. It boggles the mind.

DINERS. Oh, don't get me started on that...
