When it comes to good game magazines, like they don't make anymore these days, I'm a pack rat. That's why I'm gonna make this thread. Scans from the golden era of gaming.

Man years ago, like in 1997 or 98 I threw out a box full of old magazines like EGM, Game Players, and my personal favorite, VG&CE from the early 90s.  I miss those mags a TON and kick myself in the ass for being such a dumbass, seeing these scans just reminded me of it, hah.

Thanks for the awesome scans! I was unfortunate and didn't really get to see EGM and the other goodies back in the day, I didn't get them until like 1998. These scans are really great, lots of badass stuff for us fighter fans!

GameFan did some perfect NeoGeo coverage,and did a nice re-review of Magican Lord in the Graveyard section.
I got rid of my mags about 2 years ago myself.Im the same as you guts,kicking myself over it.My son has taken interest in reading them now,and it would have been great to let him read that kind of stuff,as he is a heavy old school gamer.

Yeah old mags rule, plus it's expensive as hell to get the really good ones like VG&CE off of ebay.  I bought 2 issues last year and it cost me just under $20!

Man, I HAVE all those magazines. Back in the early '90s I bought EGM every month, including the few issues of that skinny little spinoff they did for the import scene, Super Gamer or Super Gaming or whatever. I also have the first three or four years' worth of GameFans and the first, like, five years of Nintendo Power.

But EGM was so great back in those days, especially around '90 and '91 when we were transitioning from the 8-bit to the 16-bit generations; every issue had new Mega Drive/Genesis stuff and previews of the first generation of Super Famicom games, which looked frickin' AMAZING at the time. It was such an exciting time to be a gamer and see such a big leap forward in our hobby. I had a letter and also some high scores published in EGM back then, too.

The funny thing was, when I had my letter published in EGM, they edited it -- and it wound up with far worse grammar than my original letter. :P

What I'd REALLY like to get ahold of, either originals or scans, are some collections of Electronic Games magazine from the early to mid '80s. That was good stuff back in the golden age!

hahahahaha. that's classic! I am not surprised they butchered your letter.

As for Electronic Games... I know I have some of these somewhere, but they tend to be the later ones. I'll scan the TG-16 stuff :)

Yeah, the later ones are a completely different animal. The original Electronic Games mag lasted until April 1985, after which they changed their name to Computer Entertainment and focused more on computers than videogames. The publishers of EGM actually brought back Electronic Games magazine around the early/mid-90s, but of course it was more just an EGM spinoff than anything.

There's an okay archive of classic game magazine scans and some editorial at http://cvmm.vg-network.com/. What I'd really like to see, though, are page scans of all the articles and reviews.
