Working at a game store for awhile I used to hear the AWESOMEST messed up names for games. The shit people would call stuff was hilarious, sometimes I had to actually turn away so they couldn't see me biting my lip. Here are some of my favorites-

Super Thunder Black- An 8 or 9 year old said this one when he wanted to see Super Thunder BLADE, I thought it sounded like an awesome name for a porn movie.

Cockster's Pocket Tales- This kid was like 6 so it was extra funny since he was so innocent and absolutely no idea why I was laughing. It was actually CONKER'S Pocket Tales.

Red Fraction- This was a grown man f*cking up here, I was like "Red Fraction huh? Is that an M rated math game?", he still didn't get it. Red FACTION is the actual title.

President Evil, Presidential Evil, Residential Evil, even more variations I can't remember- I was constantly amazed at the ways people could mess up Resident Evil's name.

That's a few off the top of my head, I know there's like 5 million I'm forgetting but I never wrote them down like I should have so I just have to wait until something jogs my memory.

Anybody else work at a game store and have some to add?

Hahahaha! That's hilarious, especially Cockster! I haven't heard many of these myself, but I'm sure there are plenty I can't remember at the moment. I do remember once my brother telling me when he went to go rent "Saga Frontier", the check out lady called it "Sega Frontier".

I mess titles up all the time. Here are some recent ones:

Final Fury -- I was trying to say "Fatal Fury", but I got to thinking about Final Fight for some reason. I've also said "Fatal Fight".

Final Blade -- I was mixing up Final Soldier and Soldier Blade

OK, this is VERY embarrassing (these are real stories):

Before Genesis and TG-16 came out, I was talking to a friend at school about the prospects. My friend said that he thought China Warrior looked kool. This is fine, except that he pronounced it

Cheeenah Warrior -- no joke!

Guess what? I thought that was the correct way to pronounce it and I called it Cheeenah Warrior for like 2-3 years (and so did my brothers, since I always referred to it that way).

Dumbass. I can't believe I didn't realize that sooner! He was a Sega fan and maybe he was messing with me

Konami NES manual
I think it was Top Gun or Jackal, and they talked about a "rendezvous". I knew what a rendezvous was, from hearing the word, but I had never seen it spelled. So when I read the manual, I pronounced it literally: Wren Dezz Vuss... For a long time. I never looked it up in a dictionary. You can imagine how astounded I was on the day that I finally figured it out. Dumbass.

Many gamers in France were used to mispell "PC Engine" as "PC Engeyene" -- as it seems "i" is always pronounced "eye" in English. It always made me laugh (or cry, depending on the mood of the day). It's pretty much the same with Tomb Raider, which most people pronounce "Tomb Rider" because that's how the phonem "aï" is pronounced here.

Haha Tomb Rider would be an awesome name.

Steve I love those old game manuals, you used to be able to find the dumbest mispellings in them. My mom actually would make my brother and I come to her if we found any mistakes in our video game manuals or games so that she could explain why the grammar was wrong, it was her way of injecting a slight bit of education into our games. I remember thinking it was a blast finding mistakes, it wasn't until years later I realized that she had been making us LEARN the whole time, haha.

I totally agree with GUTS, TombRider is a friggin' awesome name... too bad they never made a perverted sequel with necrophelia-lite in it. Speaking of necrophelia-lite, has anyone seen "The Frighteners" w/ M. J. Fox? I wasn't too impressed with the movie, but I thought it had some potential (some of the concepts / situations were neat). Anyway, there was a horny ghost cowboy grandpa in that movie. I still don't know what to make of that.

Awesome. That is pretty kool, actually

Sometimes there were total inconsistencies in those manuals (like, they tell you your enemy is called "Deathbringer' ... and then on the next page they refer to the same enemy as "Lord Death" ... I know, it's not like many folks read the manuals, but a little bit of copy editing would have helped.

I also think I remember one instance in which THE COMPLETELY WRONG GAME was referenced in a portion of a manual. It probably was Data East, or Capcom, or Konami... (NES games) ... anyway, I can't remember the details, but this is an illustration of what happened:
Mega Man manual: You've got to get Dr. Wiley! He has taken control of blah blah blah. Only you, Captain Commando, can save the planet!

What? Where's Mega Man?

I've seen The Frighteners some years ago, but I can't remember it well enough to remember a lot of scenes of it, but I remember liking the movie, since it did have a cool idea and Michael J. Fox rocks my world.

The Frighteners was awesome! It sucks it STILL isn't out on DVD, I hear the laser disc version is worth a grip.

Ninja Gayden instead of Ninja Gaiden for me. Everyone in school even pronounced it that way. The first time I heard it pronounced correctly was in the movie called "The Wizard". But back then, I refused to believe it. I really thought it was pronounced "GAYDEN" and the guy in the movie was a total idiot.

It wasn't until 10 years ago that I finally realized it was pronounced as "Guy-den" instead of "Gay-den"! Looks like someone has to brush up on their japanese.

Yup..for years, being backwards VT hicks, my friend and I called it Why's before we got the game..and even now I have to catch myself...

Ninja Gayden? Oh yeah..even now I must needs catch myself.

The Frighteners wasn't bad and was actually directed by Peter Jackson of LOTR/KIng Kong fame now..Gary Busy always makes for a great villain but he was best in his turn as Buddy Holly in the Buddy Holly Story -Doom

I've seen people pronounce it as "Ease" instead of "Es" and others spell the name with an added apostrophe - Y's.

You wouldn't believe how much it pisses off the Ys purists when the game name is spelled with an apostrophe.
