I had some even pronounce it by saying each letter: Y, S.

I've seen people pronounce it as "Ease" instead of "Es" and others spell the name with an added apostrophe - Y's.

You wouldn't believe how much it pisses off the Ys purists when the game name is spelled with an apostrophe.

TIPTONIUM GAME ENGRISH
I've seen that site before.  It's sad and funny at the same time.
You'd think japanese translators would have an editor present with them for these games?

I have gotten in trouble for spelling, Ys like that when it should be Ys.

Dunno i guess i pick that habit up... from lurking at a 'lot of message boards since some ppl spell it like that.

As for lazy engrish in video games dunno. Back then... translations wasn't perfect "most companys" are worry about making $ nothing more.

Suikoden.  Even I called it Sue-ko-den for about 10 years, until I realised it's pronounced more like Swee-ko-den.

Wouldn't it techincally be pronounced Suu-eee-ko-den? I guess the Su+i part would be pronounced fast enough so it would sound like "swee".

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

What about "kid Icarus"? Kid ic-car-rus, Kid acar-rus, or Kid Ie-car-rus? I'll go with the first one.

As for Ninja Gaiden(gayden)... well it does follow the same rule as Tomb Raider(rayder) if spoken as English

Matter of fact I don't recall anyone, ever, saying Ninja Guyden

For the longest time I though Ryu from street fighter was pronounced Rye-you. This was probably up until 2 years ago when I started hearing people pronounce it as Ree-you

Ha! I thought it was Rye-You! Man, that's funny.

Icarus is easy, since it is derived from Greek mythology.

But back in the day, folks called Ninja Gaiden both GAY-den and GUY-den... though it wasn't clear to us if one was more correct than the other.

I have a question for folks: How would you pronounce "Blodia" (our favorite HuCard puzzle game)?

I always pronounce Blodia as "Blood-eee-ah", but I'm sure the correct pronounciation is "Blow-dee-ah". Or for Japanese, "Bu-ro-di-a".

Heh, how about this for a pronounciation? "BLOOD!!! EEEEYAAAAHHHH!!!!"

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

Blodia blows.

Gaiares is another one.  Most people I know pronounce it "Gay Airs", although one guy called it "Gay Ares" like he's talking about the god of war or something.

I love how the ads said to pronounce it "GUY ARE US", which is STILL wrong!

LOL hilarious thread...

I was working at an EB years ago when a chick came in and wanted Steve Madden 2004.   I told her they only sold that at the footlocker next to the Nike Air Jackson's

Then most people wanted Grand auto theft.

And can't forget about the time a chick made a comment about the Gamecube games being tiny.  Her little 4 year old brother proclaimed his 17 year old sister had never seen "dics that small before"  of course he meant to say discs.

It was f*cking hilarious.   A little off topic.  We handed out so many applications one day that a little black kid game in right about when we ran out.  He said "yall got applications?"   I told him I was sorry but I was out at the moment.  I told him we also accept resumes so we can get him an interview.  He said, "aight den, well can I get a resume??"   I was like you are soooo hired!!!!!

Haha "aight den, can I gets me a resume?", man that is priceless.

I had this one older black guy come in to my store one time to sell some stolen crap-

me "we'll give you $10 for that controller, cash."
him "$10?  hows about $15? I'M A POOR BLACK NIGGA!  Help a nigga out!"
me (trying not to laugh) "no sorry, $10"
him "c'mon now, how about $11 then, that's a Big Mac right there!"
me "alright fine."

So I ring him up, and on his way out he yells, "YOU STAY WHITE THERE, I'LL BE RIGHT BLACK!"

Man that was awesome, I was laughing the rest of the day about that.
