Monster Lair is one of my favorites, but I can see how someone wouldn't like it.

but I can see how someone wouldn't like it.

lol, I absolutely can't.

1. has one of the best red book audio.
2. is an almost arcade perfect port (only missing the parallax), but has the much more awesome score.
3. came out in 1988 as one of the first cd-rom games in history of any video games. 80s arcade at its best.
4. is like at least 3x better than its sega mega drive counter part (makes it look like a sms game).
5. superb visuals, speed, dynamics, controlls for its time.

lol, want do you want more?

Monster Lair is lame?!?.... you obviously suck.

Monster Lair is the Galaga of platformers. Simple gameplay but an awesomeness bag of fun.
Schbibin Man 3 is super-easy. I enjoy just playing through it more than many other games.

If you don't like shubi iii and monster lair you might be more interested in playing Philips CDi instead.

I want more variety. It's the same thing over and over and over again. For it's time it's a decent game. But it has not aged well at all.

Most of the PCE's great games are still great today, just Monster Lair isn't one of them is all.

Monster lair is great, it is just that it is a shooter, and everybody was expecting maze madness, like in Dragons Trap.

I'm just chiming in in favor of Monster Lair.  I find it pretty challenging, but love the gameplay, colorful graphics and catchy tunes.  It' not my favorite game for the system, but it's certainly a classic in my book.

Some of that may be due to nostaligia, since it was one of the earliest games I remember playing in the system, but I think sunteam_paul hit the nail on the head relating it to Galaga.  It's repetitive, but captures the essence of a classic 80's arcade game while still mixing things up.

Every time I see Monster Lair mentioned on these forums I remember how much I enjoy that game and go play it... And this is no exception.  Gotta go! :D

Some of the most fun I've had playing pce with a friend has been playing ML. Give it a shot. Play it some mroe too, its pretty tough and there are a ton of levels. The more you play it the better you get and the challenge is a lot of fun

Ok he's right. Played it again. What a cheap, boring, dull, repetitive and frowsy mental underload this is.

Frowsy??

Anyways, I love the game personally.  I do wonder if some or all of the paralax might've been possible if made a little later in the PCE timeframe.  IIRC, all the levels are completely forced scrolling, I can't think of one instance where it isn't.  Also, IIRC, it's all horizontal, there is no multi-scrolling screen, other then maybe in the cave levels, which I don't think have any paralax.

1.  Great music is fine if the game is fun, but all the great music in the world doesn't make a bad game good.
2.  An arcade perfect port of a dull game doesn't make it a good game.
3.  Just because a game is old, it doesn't make it good.
4.  Just because it's better than another version, it doesn't make this version good.
5.  Just because the controls were good then, it doesn't make the game interesting now.

I'm just sayin'.
