Canada vs. USA releases?
« on: May 14, 2012, 05:57:19 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm a fairly new collector.  I had a TG-16 as a teenager and thought it was a fantastic system even though none of my friends had it.  I'm in Canada, and I was just curious if Canada saw any TG-16 games released that didn't make it into the USA.  Were there any 'special edition' type releases solely for Canada?

Thank you for your time.
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

I don't think there were any Canada only releases. I think the only difference was that they did sometimes include French manuals in Canadian releases.

Canadian releases were generally just US issued games, some of them had french manuals added. Other than that, no differences.

Thanks guys.  So as far as HU cards go there were 94 US games released and 94 Canadian.  Is this accurate?

Out of the games that were sold, how many retailed without the jewel cases?

Well, when you're saying Canadian, not all 94 HuCards had Canada specific manuals or packaging.

Thanks Sadler!  I take it the 21 games you listed from Sparky's post still included a manual?

They all included English manuals, I'm not sure if french manuals exist for all the TII games.

As far as French manuals go, I'm not sure which NEC and TTI games had them and which didn't. I would suspect none of the Working Designs or IGS games had them, and I'm not aware of all NEC or TTI published games having them, but some might.

I'm not really interested in the French manuals.  For most 'next-gen' consoles I tear off the cellophane and toss the damn thing out.  Oddly, I keep the English manual, DLC codes, and adverts that are included on the inside of the game.

My main curiosity was if Canada received a game that the USA didn't.  It doesn't happen often, but sometimes we do get things that my friends to the South of us don't.

Thanks again for the info! :)

Besides the Amiga CD32 system, and some Master System games imported from the UK into Canada, I can't think of many console specific examples of this concurring.

There is nothing unique or special about any Canadian release. Some of them have multi-lingual manuals. That's it. The ROMs are identical and while I'm not positive that every US game got a CAN release, I'm sure there weren't any Canadian exclusives.
