Metal Savior: A fast paced FPS
« on: May 15, 2012, 11:57:11 AM »
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mangledeyestudios/metal-savior

This is a friends project.  He made Dark Salvation in the past and is now working on a arcade-paced FPS that focuses on action-filled gameplay and reflexes, as opposed to cinematic games.

Spread the word!  It should turn out awesome if it gets funded.

It looks a lot like Monoliths Tron 2.0 game. Did he use that Lithtech engine or something?

Looks pretty good, but unfortunately I don't think he's gonna make it...

If your friend not employed and doing this full time?

No, hes using id Tech3.  He did all the art/stuff himself.   It's obviously Tron inspired though.  We're all Tron fanatics in Cleveland.   The original ideas started to form before Tron legacy even came out.  he thought it'd be neat to ride the Tron legacy hype back when it came out... but then I'm pretty sure he decided that would look tacky... lol

visuals wise, it definitely looks awesome, and not like any other FPS out there right now.  Even Tron 2.0 doesn't quite look like this.   Tron 2.0 is excellent though.

Yes, things look bleak... (unfortunately), and yes, he's trying to do this full time, with fingers crossed.

It's a lot of stressful work to make an FPS by yourself.    He's an amazing art/level person, but it's still a lot for one dude.  Enough to make you hate doing it while you're doing it.

If funding goes through, I will become the programmer to take some of the heat off of him so he can focus on the levels and the visuals.

Between all the time/software/prizes/other production costs involved, 50,000$ isn't anything.

but it still seems like a shit load -_-;

*fingers crossed*

Right now the game is basically 1 level (what you see in the video), and just two mostly operational enemies.   the rest of the enemies have about as much AI as Intellivision game enemies.

It seems like the only way to really get these kickstarters to succeed, is to have the right social connections.  I've seen goofy watches and iphone docks get TONS of funding... for pieces of plastic...

all because magazines like Forbes, and big-name computer sites mention it.

For indie FPS games though, it ain't that simple.  -_-

I would also be concerned that there are already too many free or dirt cheap FPSes available. There are lots of genres that are great for indie studios and individuals, but I'd suggest that the FPS genre is going to be THE singular most difficult to break into these days.

It looks incredible. Spenoza, is right, there are alot of free fps's. However most of them suck. The art direction in MS may be tron inspired, but thats not a bad thing. I really like the potential. Lets hope they can break the mold with this and get noticed in the large pile of crap thats floating around.

In order for that to happen, word needs to get around, and ~8-10,000 people need to pony up some support funds.

You guys should help spread the word, even if you aren't pledging. :)

Most dirt cheap FPS games suck.

This one aims to have an arcade-pace.   Robotron in 3D style.   Endurance and reflexes are the name of the game.
