No time for obey in the sunshine :(
« on: May 29, 2012, 03:08:06 AM »
I took a week off last week, and the weather was just blazing sunshine all week.  I played a little wii fit in the mornings, but I didn't play more than an hour of PCE all week (neglected to bring out the GT).  Instead I was pretty much meeting Donna for lunch, then headed to the park for icecream, beer, frisbee and reading my book.  It's the first time in a long time I've used suncream (despite being fair) and now I actually have a tan of sorts.

All in all a pretty good week despite the non-obey.  The book is pretty good too, it's this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Periodic-Tales-Curious-Lives-Elements/dp/0670918113

Thank the gods you filled us in on your personal life.  Please start a blog as soon as possible so we don't miss out on bowel movement updates and what type of cereal you had for breakfast.

What type did you have for breakfast?

I took last week off as well.  Took in a round of golf and played with my 10 month old daughter non-stop.  She's off to daycare in a couple weeks so I wanted to get as much daddy-daughter time in as possible.  She even started to crawl while I was as home!  Perfect timing.  It was great to see her clumsily crawling towards toys.
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

I can see why you get shitty with some people, but chit chatting in chit chat?  I really tried to like you man, but I think you might as well do what I'm about to and just /ignore.

Wow, great weather for golf.  I'd really like a round, but last time we went to the driving range, I was so out of practive, each shot was sending jolts through my arm, and I'm not sure I have the time or inclination to practice up to the stage I could manage 9 holes.  That's sweet about your daughter man :)

I have two kids.  One is about to turn 3 and the other is about to turn 1.  I get to go golfing as often as Halley's Comet comes around to visit.  My game is nothing stellar.  I must have lost 13 balls on a wide open course.  Nothing like pounding the ball off the tee, driving it 250 yards to have it slice right and take off into the next township never to be seen again.  I need lessons, but I'll have to wait until my kids are out of high school to take them.  :)

It's a question of how many threads do you need to start about your personal life - I took time off from work; I can't afford 1941 (the humanity!); I bought a laptop; etc.  I'm all for pointless inanity, but could you at least make it interesting?

I was kind of thinking the same thing actually, the guy starts threads about various things he thinks are cool and it clutters up the chit chat section.  I mean, how does one cope with the 'what are you watching on youtoob' and 'random pics' threads not on top of the forum!?

Could always just not post in them, so they don't get bumped to the top.

Soop, if you modded the TE with 3.5" LCD, you can maybe see it in the sun;)

Necro, ease up a little bit will you. It's as much soop prerogative to share what ever he wants as it is much your prerogative to ignore his post.

But it's not my prerogative to comment about something being little more than trite navel gazing?

Neocromancer comes off as being a pessimist online, which PROBABLY translates to real life as well. Unfortunate, but whatever!

I think the thing is here that none of this shit means anything or contributes in any way to anyone here. It does read off like mindless blog post or dairy entries. Honestly I don't really care, but there is better places to share this kind of info then a gaming forum. Even though this is the chit chat area, what you are posting doesn't fit the tone of the forum, so don't be shocked if someone expresses disdain over the content of your post.

Really this is the kind of stuff is way better suited for active casual chat in a shout box maybe, or via private messages with people you know better. No one here knows who Donna is, no one gives a f*ck how well you tanned 3 yesterdays ago, or could give a rats ass if you gladly paid someone next Tuesday for a hamburger today, other trivial bullshit, etc. If they say they are interested, they are just lying and being polite trying not to hurt your feelings about it. Mentioning a book you are currently reading is cool, I mean you are sharing meaningful info and turning people onto a good read possibly. But the rest of the stuff, yeah, you could leave it at the door and your forum posting would be better off for it.

You actually bring up some good points, but TBH, this is just the way I am, and I'm uninclined to change.  We're talking about a handful of posts here, which Necro seems to have singled out - in all of my posts here, I think about half of the dialogue between us is him insulting me in about 5 different posts, and it's a shame, because some of his posts are quite insightful.  But the fact is, in those 5 posts he's just picked up on anything he can to pick a fight for some reason I don't get.

Hell, I'm a regular person, and sometimes I will say stupid things, I'll get my facts wrong, and I'll put my foot in my mouth, but it's really not a large percentage of the time, and it's not like I'm going out of my way to annoy people.

For instance (and I'm not picking a fight here), you say there are better places for this than a gaming forum, but we can't overlook that in a gaming forum, over half your posts are in fighting street.  I'm guessing that you've known some of the members for a while or something, but one could argue there's a better place to do what you're doing than a video game forum.  Hell there are better video game forums to do that in.

The fact is, if you really find someones posts that boring or inane, there's an ignore button right there, or (and this is what I do) if you don't understand or are not particularly interested in a topic title, just don't click on it. If, however you want to do a little trash talk or try and troll someone, it's easy to jump in there and insult someone.  I'd be more inclined to tone it down with a polite PM, but I think everyone knows that.
