Sorry for the noob question...
« on: June 24, 2012, 03:48:35 AM »
Please remember, I'm not quite a veteran around here, but can I ask who or where is the trustworthy source to have the audio repaired on a turbo express? I have seen references to having it done, and Im wondering if mine is salvageable. Thanks in advance.

If you're gonna send it off to someone, you should go for a full capacitor replacement - end of story. That the sound capacitors have gone bad indicates that it's a matter of time when the others will go bad (video or power, etc.) and it's 19 year old hardware, so a full cap replacement will ensure nothing else breaks... But yeah, turbokon, Keith Courage, BlueBMV, chop5, etc. offer these services. However, if you're up for it and have some soldering skills, I did a full capacitor replacement myself and was successful at it. That thread takes you through it with very good detail all together.

IMO, all of our techs here are trustworthy.  Also, I agree with NightWolve, get all caps replaced...they all will fail.  Far as techs here, thesteve,BlueBMW,turbokon,ApolloBoy, KeithCourage..  I may be leaving someone out...

I had my Duo's caps replaced and region modded by thesteve and can vouch for him. I believe he does Turbo Expresses as well.

If you haven't got it recapped yet, you should get the lcd mod from thesteve, I just got it back and it's so much better than the original.
