PC Engine GT - Price Check
« on: June 28, 2012, 12:35:39 AM »
Hi guys,

What's a good price for a working GT console in good condition?

Preferably one with a fresh recap. Loose is fine, this is to play not to rot away in storage. Not fussed about region or screen mods.

eBay is little help, with the same grossly overpriced units being re-listed again and again - does anyone here have one for sale?

I'd be comfortable paying up to $150 for a fully working, freshly capped example in good condition, is that a fair call?

I think that's on the cheap side, but it's certainly doable.  I've seen non-BIN ones go for that (unboxed)

Yeah I've spotted a few for the $150 mark, and this is probably the most I'm prepared to pay for a loose unit. Still trying to decide whether it will be worth it or not, may be better off just sticking to the big screen.

Well, they're hella cool, but I did make a thread about suitable they are.  Certain games work great, but the screen is old, and the battery life is only about 4 hours with Eneloops, so you kind of want password games, or games that are pick-up-and play.

Of course what we really need, is a PCE-on-a-chip, and a large-screen, low-power handheld.  If you're not a collector, you could go for a Vita and buy games, or a PSP and an emulator.  A PSP will set you back $60 tops.

I bought one on ebay for $50 and needed caps, I changed them myself and then had thesteve do a region mod for about the same price i paid for the GT. I bought an Express for about $40 at a flea market that also needed caps but i've traded it off since. They are pretty cheap on yahoo japan as well

I had a quick look on YHJ and couldn't spot any cheap ones.

Man I'd snap one up in a heartbeat if I could find one for $50!

My last TE I picked was about a couple months ago for $110 shipped from eBay and it came with a tv turner, ac/car adapter in a nice case. It only displayed a blank screen with no sound at first. Replace all the cap and now it working. I'm in the process of modding it with a newer 2.5" lcd screen. So if you're patience, you can find some good deals on eBay.

Can't remember exactly how much I got mine for but I think it was around $60 with few HuCards (including Gunhed) and the TV tuner. Needs a recap though.

Wow, let me know how that goes - I don't think I could take a scalpel to one, even for the extra screen size of a 3.5"

That's a dramatic difference. There's so much more detail in the new LCD.

I would love to try modding a TE, but the last two I saw at retro game shops were going for $250.

I'm gonna have steve mod my gt until it walks.  A friend of mine paid $75 for one that was completely broken and bought me one for $100 that needed caps. Steve fixed both. $150 seems high to me. amazon is selling them for $133 shipped. I wonder if someone in the forums would part with one for less than that.  Turbokon, i love your 2.5" lcd mod for those that wanna keep theirs looking stock. Nice work.

I've been offered one from someone here for $150 (loose, fresh caps, good condition) but with shipping from the US to Australia it's too expensive for my liking.

I could get a Duo console for the same price, I might go down that road instead.
