Rainbow Islands! Finally!
« on: July 03, 2012, 12:54:04 AM »
After a good few years, I've finally picked up Rainbow Islands for (what I consider) a decent price!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEC-PC-Engine-Super-CD-Rom-RAINBOW-ISLANDS-Japan-/271010436973?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f197b176d

I don't have too much money spare this month, but I didn't think I could pass this up.  £30 is a saving of £20 on the cheapest I think I've seen over the past few years.

*edit* seems like there was another one that got reduced to a similar price http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rainbow-Islands-no-spine-NEC-PC-Engine-CD-Rom-Japan-/300670210791?pt=FR_Jeux_Vid%C3%A9o_Consoles_Autres&hash=item46015752e7

But that's the most I've paid for a game in a while.

Definitely the best port.  Although.... hah, I just bought this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00080FCTG/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

Well, at least it has more than (supposedly arcade perfect) Rainbow Islands.  Plotting and Bubble Bobble are certainly going to be worth the £4 price!

this still can't be the best port, since it is missing the original somewhere over the rainbow theme.

Too bad the FM Towns didn't get the original Rainbow Islands.  It did get a port of RI: Extra and it is truly perfect in every way, but I see no reason they couldn't have included the original as well.  Extra is a lot of fun, but f*ck is it hard.

Thats a pretty good price for eBay! I can buy that game for $30 any day of the week but with shipping and everything it would end up being around $50 in the end.

I also like the Mega Drive port with the weird Darius mode, but I'm just a sucker for the Mega Drive anyway.

I don't know if I'll ever get this game, but I certainly want it. I have the PlayStation 1 Taito port as a consolation, though.

At least we have a lot of folks who appreciate Rainbow Islands... in other circles, I have heard folks call it "bland" (the blasphemy!) and anti-climatic.
