Back when it was released and I first played the game it was one of my greatest gaming experiences of all time, the game is just is so f'ckin epic!
From the opening anime intro and prolougue then right through to finishing it 100% I was locked, it's just pure unadulterated awesomeness!

I say it is totally worth it. And there's nothing like playing games on the original hardware.

But to be honest, I pretty much gave up on Castlevania after playing Simon's Quest. I gave SOTN and Curse of Darkness a try but it just wasn't the same magic as the original NES title (a really hard one but gratifying when I finished it 20+ years ago). I wish I played this Chi no Rondo back in the day, but I was pretty busy playing Sonic, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, TMNT, etc on my Genesis.

I just pulled the trigger on this one instead of wasting my $ on say, Madden 13.

It's on my to-buy list, just waiting for the right deal ("saving it for last" as I call it). In the meantime, I just dug out my PS1 to play through SOTN again after about 10 years.

You don't like Castlevania III? That one, and Rondo, are amazing and both in the same style as the original. The Genesis Castlevania game is very good, and in this style, as well. Castlevania IV on the SNES also, but the multidirectional whip thing might turn some people off (or on? haha).

Castlevania IV was absolutely awesome. Of the earlier Castlevania games, only CV2 was a weak link. And I think part of the problem was likely development constraints and they probably ran out of time before they really had what they wanted. It's still decent but compared to 1, 3, 4, Dracula X, Bloodlines, SotN, and even the Gameboy games it is probably the least favorite.

Really?  Even though it wasn't as good as the NES games I was used to, I played the heck out of it and its sequel and loved 'em.

well, maybe my expectations were warped, as i never played it until about a year ago.
but i just felt the game was way too slow, compared to the console games.

I mainly played the Belmont's Revenge I think on GB, and only a few levels here and there. The point was CV2 on NES felt unfinished and could have been better than it was.

Also, considering for how much the watered down SNES port goes for these days, Dracula X for the PCE is an excellent deal for your $.

Re: Do I buy Dracula X?

f*ck YES.

I paid 46 pounds sterling to a guy that was super pissed back about 2 years ago and he shipped it from liverpool. It was eBay and it wasn't sunteam_paul so I didn't feel bad.

It's full of awesome. Every goddamn moment is pure bliss. It will completely slay you on side-scrollers for nigh close to eternity.
