THQ to Publish old Turbo Favorites?
« on: December 16, 2005, 12:57:04 AM »
Explaining how I found this would take too long to explain.  So to make a long story short, I found a message from last April from THQ that mentioned they had an opportunity to publish the following titles at a budget ($9.99) price.  I'm not sure if they ever came out, or for what console they were planning, but here are the titles:

Defender of the Crown
Defender of the Crown 2
Wings
Rocket Ranger
It Came from the Desert
It Came from the Desert 2

SDI
The King of Chicago
Lords of the Rising Sun
The Three Stooges
Sinbad and the Throne of the Falcon
TV Sports Basketball
TV Sports Football
TV Sports Baseball
TV Sports Boxing

Now keep in mind that these were all the Amiga versions, but it still would have been cool, eh?
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

YES! This would be pretty kool if they nailed the Amiga emulation. I really liked Cinemaware's stuff, even though I played the games on various platforms (I wish I played all the Amiga versions). It seems as if the entire back-catalogue is listed above.

I remember posting about someone purchasing Cinemaware's IP... I'll have to find it. It might have been around the same time this THQ memo was dated...

Kaminari mentioned that another company had purchased Cinemaware's IP in the past and planned on releasing updated / upgraded PC versions (ultimately, only a few titles were released before the publisher bit the bullet). IIRC, Lords of the Rising Sun was one of the titles that was re-released. The original PC versions were constrained by the limited video cards available at the time, so the upgraded PC releases would have gotten an aesthetic overhaul, but not much else.

EDIT: OK, here's the old post

(I had never heard of ClickBoom until Kaminari mentioned them in his post. Unfortuantely, ClickBoom looked a LOT better than eGames, which is a really low-budget PC software publisher. I doubt eGames will do more than re-package the old games.)

MY THEORY: As far back as last April, Cinemaware was interested in selling off their IP. Hence the THQ memo. Unfortunately for Cinemaware, nobody was interested, until October of this year, when eGames acquired their IP. This means that there will be no THQ compilation, since they passed on the offer. eGames claims to be interested into expanding into "higher-priced PC" and console markets, but these statements seem to be directed at potential investors. eGames current business model revolves 100% around bargain-bin PC software.

I am sad that Cinemaware (Mark II) didn't die a dignified death after releasing their PlayStation and GBA titles. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would much rather have THQ publishing Cinemaware titles than eGames.  eGames looks like poop.

Man what's that King of Chicago game? That's a kick ass title name, like King of Casino.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).
