Gekkan PC Engine Magazine Scan - October 1991
« on: August 01, 2012, 02:43:50 AM »
Hi all,

Here's the scan of the Oct 1991 issue of Gekkan PC Engine magazine likely released at the end of Aug 1991.  I wanted to touch up the scans, but unfortunately I totally suck at PhotoShop so I'm releasing what I have.

Some highlights include:
[ul][li]a blurry pic of Circus Lido 2!  (pg. 136)[/li][li]an ad for Circus Lido which explains how to win a medal for clearing the game (pg. 98)[/li][li]2 page spread of Space Fantasy Zone (pg. 26-27)[/li][/ul]

For the Circus Lido medal, all you had to do was send a postcard with the password to the last stage to Unipost Japan.  First 500 people got the medal.  I never saw the game in stores, but the ad mentions that in order to even get the game, you have to go to your local bookstore and order it.  Not sure if it ever sat on shelves back in the day.

Enjoy!!!

Great job, akamichi. How long did it take to scan and clean up 146 pages?

Yeah, was fun to eye through. Will take a closer look later, thanks! : D
On a side note, did someone else think that portable Panasonic CD-player you could win in there (can't remember what you actually had to do - survey?) looked super cool? I wanted it bad. Seriously, why does old tech look so good? :-k

Edit: page 85, just above the two-page ad for Browning

I'm glad everyone's enjoying it.  I'm going to try to scan some earlier issues once I get more time.  Final exams are right around the corner tho....  :(

Great job, akamichi. How long did it take to scan and clean up 146 pages?

It took a while since it was my first time doing it.  A lot of the initial time went into testing different options with my scanner and various settings.   I spent a minimum of 5-10 mins scanning each page.  That's aligning the page, setting the scan area (preview scan), scanning, and finally checking the result on my PC.  I probably spent a couple hours each week over two or so months scanning pages.  I wasn't trying to break any speed records or anything. :)

Yeah, was fun to eye through. Will take a closer look later, thanks! : D

Yeah, you had to fill out the survey card and send it in.

I still have that issue. I love that magazine. There's always an interview with some cute Japanese chick in it too, lol. Can't read any of it but nice pics.

Comrade, if you scan some issues, I will gladly host them and make them available here:

http://archives.tg-16.com/magazine_database.htm?col=pub&val=dengeki

Notice that we don't have any issues of Dengeki PC Engine scanned/available!

Huge files are fine, so err on the side of high-resolution! Contact me if you have any questions.
