EGM's Top 200 Games of Their Time
« on: January 06, 2006, 10:28:14 AM »
Just thought I'd let you know how the Turbo ranked:

Quote
197 Devil's Crush
163 Military Madness
156 Legendary Axe
153 Ys Book 1&2

Here were the Top Ten:

Quote
10 Pong
9 GTA 3
8 Zelda: Ocarina of Time
7 Space Invaders
6 Super Mario 64
5 Zelda
4 Tetris
3 Street Fighter 2
2 Pac Man
1 Super Mario Bros.

China Warrior also got a mention in their retrospect section.  Apparently they had a high score contest for it or something.
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

Well it was a list of "their time", what games were bigger and still hold up as well as old Nintendo games?  Nintendo may be an a$$hole company with tons of shit re-releases but they did make some of the best games of all time.

Awesome! I don't recall any contest, but I'd love to find out if they did.

I agree with GUTS, Nintendo really made some classics. But top 10, 100, 200 lists are never going to please anyone. They're just a novelty, I guess.

Count down lists can be so whacked. Just look up "Rolling Stone Greatist Guitarist" list on Google to see how wacked they can be! (According to Rolling Stone, Kurt Cobaine's guitar playing is better than so many legends)

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Yeah, I'm a huge Turbo fanboy, but it's hard to deny the greatness of those Nintendo games on that Top 10 list.  They were truly monumental.  It's just a matter of being objective.  The Bonk games are my favorites of all time, but I'm rational enough to see that they don't belong on the "greatest games of their time" list.

Although I expected Turbo to get snubbed in that kind of list, I was pleasantly surprised at how many Intellivision gamers made the list.

But I still think that MLB should've made the list before any other Intellivision sports game. I don't play sports games, but its always been my favorite because, among other things, every player is a unique button press away.
