Which controllers came with what models of hardware?
« on: August 06, 2012, 09:42:56 AM »
I've not seen a thread or a list of this before so I figured I'd ask. What controllers came with what model of Hardware, the original PCE came with the turbo-less white PCE pad for example. The Shuttle came with a unique looking controller, and Duo-RX came with the six button pad. Other than that as far as I'm aware they were all basically the same pads just with different color scheme, the question I have is what color pads came with all the other hardware variations?

That's correct, it's just as simple as that, similar colour pad to the console it's paired with.

I know it is small, but you can see some photos here:

The LaserActive pad is the one official controller I've never actually held in my hand. I think we have a thread with pics of it...the printing has a dull metallic bronze tone to it.

Everything came with a unique colorscheme, apart from the core grafx and Supergrafx, which share the same controller.  The American pads and the Laseractive pad, and the Duo R/RX pads are the only ones I don't own, but I do have rather a few.

The only official pad (that I'm aware of) that didn't come with a system was the Avenue 3, bundled with Forgotton Worlds.

Like pokemon, you gotta catch 'em all.

Here's a nice picture that I'm stealing from some other thread on these forums, doesn't show them all though. I think it's just illustrating how the controllers are all essentially identical barring colour scheme. There's also the 3 & 6 button pads plus joysticks to consider too. There are SO many controllers for the PC Engine it's crazy.

The only official pad (that I'm aware of) that didn't come with a system was the Avenue 3, bundled with Forgotten Worlds.

Don't forget the wireless pads, Avenue Pad 6, PC Blaster, Battle Pad, and the Hori 2 and 6 button pads.  Only the wireless one is first party, though; like the Ave 3, the rest are licensed third party goods, except maybe the 6 button Hori (no logos anywhere is a bad sign).

Well, damn, leave it to Lawrence to have already created the perfect image to answer the original question!

Hm...according to that list, I got a Coregrafx-controller with my Duo-R (it says PI-PD6). Not that it really matters :)

Sorta related, but the IFU/CD Drive combo that came in the black box... Did it come with a white PC Engine system? If it did, which white controller? With or without turbo switches?

There are SO many controllers for this system. Especially joysticks and third party controllers. Oh and dont forget the Pachinko controller,...Famicom had the same exact controller but with different color buttons and different color lettering. Here is the PCE version with purple lettering...

There are two versions of the LA pad. Nearly identical except the one for the N10 has Turbografx instead of the one in Frank's photo which is the one that comes with the N1. Great job as always Frank with the info.

Was the Turbografx 16 really just called the Turbografx in Europe?  Funny that I learned that by clicking in a controller thread.  That picture was actually pretty cool btw.

Yes, and, IIRC, the front of the packaging clearly celebrated R-Type! Awesome.

I'm too lazy to link to a scan/photo of the TurboGrafx EuroPeax box, but the logo itself was tamed down (no crazy flourescent stuff, two conservative segments of color underlining "TurboGrafx" to make the logo seem a bit more sophisticated (see below).
