TurboGrafx-16 Pads
« on: August 22, 2012, 02:05:32 PM »
I opened up both Pads, I didn't find where to take the cord off to replace it with the Duo Cord

Does anyone have Pics/Video of the Mod..I want to use the Avenue Pad 6 on a TurboGrafx-16

not possible. Just get a tg16>duo converter cable.

I think it may be possible if you wanted to use a duo tap cord. Its easier just to get the converter.

I tried it before and couldn't get it to work. Just try it. If it doesn't work just undo it.

I still recommend the converter cable though so you can easily change between tg16 and duo/pace. Also it adds a few feet to the tiny cable.

I was able to swap the TG-16 cable and AV 3 button pad cable, no problem there.  Most are fine but you may run into an odd 3rd party controller that aren't using the same pinout.

you have to remove the cable pins from the connector housing and reaarange them into the connecto housing of the controller you want to swap the cable into.

Easier to make an adapter IMO.

You can only swap cables if you have the newer type of TG 16 pads. The older cables have a different wire configuration. So basically if you open up a pce pad and the wire colors are the same as the TG pad then you can swap them no problem.

However this does not work for a 6 button game pad. There may be a way to swap around the wires but I haven't been able to find any documentation on how to do so for a 6 button pad.

One easy option is to swap the cables on a DUO 5 player tap with a TG16  5 player tap. This will let you use up to 5 pce controllers on your US Turbo grafx including a 6 button game pad.

I'm going to go the Cable/Modded Duo Route

So there's no way to convert a TG-16 Pad to a Duo Cable if I get a Modded Duo Tap

If you can solder it is possible to swap cables and avoid the converter

You can do it with any pad that has the same color wire order for the wire harness inside. If the color order is different then it would not work. Most standard pads can have the cable swapped. Just not the 6 button kind.

Nat wrote an excellent guide for using a pad cable to extend a multitap:

You could put a Turbo Pad cable in a Duo Tap and plug your Ave6 pad into that. If you don't have a Duo Tap, the wiring diagrams may still provide some clues for wiring a TG cable to an Ave6.

Thanks for the link

I might just get 2 Taps. one for the Modded one and the TG16 Tap

If I ever do get Bomberman, I just use the TG Tap for Bomberman

This is exactly what I do, use a PCE Tap with a modified TG16 cable. All of my PCE controllers work just fine, including Ave 3 and 6 pads.
